    Could someone help me???

I have a problem with rear demister (heater for rear window) not working. The light on button (located above headlight switch on right side of top of dash) should come on and it's not, then suddenly it is.

I have a few idea's of what it could be -

1.) Fuse on way out due to earth problem (but can't find a earth problem, as fixed one earth problem I had in engine bay)
2.) Corroded switch contacts due to being close to window / moisture (common problem with headlight switch)
3.) Device using same earth as demister / heater and interfering with it's function (turbo timer is playing up, shutting off engine when turning key to off position on ignition barrell, which is a common problem if earth is done incorrectly with turbo timer).

What I need help with, is does the light come on straight away when you turn on the rear window heater / demister in your car (R32, GTS or GTR)??? Or does it come on when element has heated up rear window, as I can't remember which of the two it does normally???

as far as i know mine lights up right away after i press the button.
mine dosent now i blame it on one of those wires running across the windsheild broke in half some how. so maybe check the grid and see if there is any that peeled away or pulled apart? not sure how to fix it but i dont drive it during winter anyways

for the turbo timer if you have it wired into the ebrake switch somethimes the connection goes bad or if the ebrake switch plays up. i cant see anyone wiring the ground for the ebrake switch all the way for the defroster switch. always worth checking though.

    good luck!

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

That makes sense, as I did feel like I damaged the grid when wiping window one time, as was extremely dirty (maybe dried that way??).

Hand brake switch. I should try it with handbrake on and off when engine stalls and see if it makes a difference.

Normally it's earthing to ignition barrell that causes it, but handbrake switch might be worth investigating.

Checked grid on rear window and looks intact.

Found out after pressing switch / button and leaving it on while driving, that light came on itself (aircon on, wet day). Then tapped the switch / button and light went out (bingo). Turned switch / button on again and left it on when engine was turned off and on and light stayed on.

Looks like dash surround has to be removed to clean contacts on switches.

Those switches in R32 are known for that. Found that pushing it quickly on/off in succesion a few times would work the contacts enough for it to stay on. Cleaning it may solve the problem. I eventually replaced the switch in my GTST and it solved the problem.
If u want to try a replacement I have one from my parts car that worked..

Thanks for the help. That's a good idea for cleaning contacts in switch, I'll give that a go and see what it does.

I'm based on the other side of the world (South), so might be expensive to send a part, but thank you very much for the offer. I'll see what I can find at local wreckers.
