  • Interchangeable Parts? - Tie Rod - URGENT!

I searched the forums and could not find the info.

Alright so my car (93' R32 Gts-t Type M) is getting safetied and they said I need a new front outer tie rod. Now i went to Nissan and they said "No can do" for skylines. Went to piston ring and got a front outer tie rod from a '90-'96 300xz. But after taking it to the shop found out that it doesnt line up... totally different in fact.. too tall and too long and also has a different taper. Then bought a '92 240sx tie rod. Brought it in and everything looked good.. Matched it up to the stock skyline tie rod end and was almost identical... THEN BAM.. female threading is too small = won't screw onto my stock inner tie rod. Shop is now closed and the skyline is still on the lift. In the morning I need to bring in some sort of tie rod that will line up or else i'm screwed and won't have a safety... plus get charged to put my old tie rod back on so i can drive outta there. HELP!

What do i need?... Tie rod from a Maxima? Z32 and 240sx tie rods are out of the question. I need something fast and can't wait for tein tie rods to ship in or anything. Just want a stock replacement.

i did some searching not much info on these. Would you be able to change the inner and outer to a 240 to make the treads match up or are they all completely different. Other than that i found a few skyline specific ones on ebay, not sure on quality but if it fixes the problem good enough.

Yeah i need one by morning. I don't think that a complete tie rod (inner and outer) from a 240sx will work because the length is different. I got a 1992 Nissan Maxima one that will be delivered to piston ring in the morning... but its still a gamble. The guy there looked at pictures of different tie rods and told me the 240sx and maxima one looks similar to my skyline tie rod. So far the 240sx tie rod is strike 2. Can anyone confirm that a maxima front outer tie rod would fit?

Oh yeah and the mechanic at the shop says that he could get a guy to bore out the threading to make it bigger but that would run me 40-100 dollars and about half a day. 40-100 dollars on a $17 dollar 240sx tie rod? come on...

I did the swap on my Gtst. Front and rear tie rods inner/outer are the exact same as the 300zx "Non Turbo" version. You can not just order the tie rods you also have to buy the ends that need to be pressed in at the shop. I had ordered mine from Ztune when they were up and running.

I would love to give you a part number but I cleared all my pms.
Traction is optional, so are zipties

                    S14 (94-98) 240sx inner+ outter = exactly the same.
maxima outters also work, since they are the same as the 240 pieces. maxima inners DO NOT WORK, too long.

believe me, I just went through this fun circus a month ago.

Its all good guys. Turns out that a 1995 Nissan Maxima outer tie rod will fit on my inner tie rod end. Thanks for the help. Are you sure about the 300zx tie rods? because the outer tie rod end is tapered way more than the stock tie rod. So for all those guys who just need an outer tie rod instead of buying both inners and outers... 1995 Maxima!
