  • will not start, have fuel, spark, no leaks....

    Like it says,

without prior slowly-growing problems, my gtst now refuses to start/run.

has fuel, as the plugs are slightly washed after somuch turning-over, also has spark, plug was arcing when pulled out.

no vacuum leaks I can find, went over errthing.

It turns over, and sort-of almost catchs, maybe each cyclinder once but refuses to hold.

repeated back-to-back attempts get nothing at all.

    Any ideas?

the ecu has an old 'stinky-tune' reflash, but I doubt thats the problem because it worked fine untill yesterday.

also both idle control valves have been cleaned out.

If AACV is faulty or adjusted wrong it can make engine not idle. Did you change the gasket on AACV????

Try cranking engine with throttle (opens throttlebody butterfly and lets air into intake plenum) and see if engine starts and let go of throttle after it starts. If engine starts with throttle, but doesn't idle when throttle is let go, AACV or IACV (both provide air to intake plenum when throttlebody butterfly is closed) could be the problem.

the coolant temp sensor can be bad. i would check the ecu for codes.

did you do a compression test? its possible the timing belt could be wore and maybe skipped a tooth

fuel pump it was, thank you gents for your responses.

I guess the original pump was running, but too worn out to work properly.

              probably a roll back...
was your tank really rusty? if it was its best to replace the tank or your going to burn another pump out
