Just wanted to know what power/boost level a OEM GTST Side mount intercooler can handle...

How much boost can a OEM GTST SMI handle?

14-15 psi..
Your main issue is going to be in placement. The SMIC on the skyline is inefficient because of the fender liner acting as a pit for hot air to pool. As long as you're able to run a constant flow of air across it with next to no recirculating air, ie. as an FMIC, you'll be good to handle a fair amount of boost.
Good thing about that SMIC is its small size, and piping diameter. Allows for a steady, quick spool rate, and still cools fairly efficiently.Check out the GTST Projects page and keep up to date with my build!

I agree, the lack of good ducting (apart from louvers) in fender liner makes the heat build up on the back of stock SMIC and heat soak it. Also ducting to intercooler core makes a difference to cooling.
Commonly done downunder is 12psi from RB20 hybrid stock turbo with stock SMIC, ECU retune with stock MAF, stock fuel system, podfilter, frontpipe, cat elimination pipe, catback exhaust, BOV. Around 285-290hp at engine. Even then it heat soaks a bit on hot days due to what's mentioned in first paragraph.Last edited by Skym; 09-08-2010, 04:17 AM.RESPONSE MONSTER

Have a couple laying here at work in Montreal. Shippin is no issue if youre keen on grabbing one. Piping is all here as well but youll likely be interested in fabbing something up for the specific applicationCheck out the GTST Projects page and keep up to date with my build!
