  • LOST KEYS- Need help!

Hey guys, I need some help. My keys are both lost, don't ask how. That's just me, I lose ****. My skyline has been off the road for a while and sometime in between cleaning my room and staying at other houses I lost it. Ignorant, I know. Anyways, I was wondering whats the best way to go about replacing a key?

Does anyone know where I'd find the key code inside my car? It's a 1989 GTS-T.

Otherwise I'm gonna have to drill into the bolts that had snap-off heads and easy out them. And take the ignition in a get a key cut and that's really pricey. Anything would be nice!

I think if you put your VIN in Fast it will give you the key code which you can get cut from a Nissan dealer. Someone else needs to verify this though.

i think if you take the drivers side door lock to a locksmith they could have a key made up for you... im pretty sure anyway.. Have a few spares made up while your at it..

I read from another post that you can get a number off the ignition and get it that way. But I also heard not all key cut places will do it for cars. So you might have to take it to Nissan.

the number is on the driver side door lock.

Using a flash light is difficult and on a couple times I got the wrong number and a key that didnt work.

Its 5 or 6 number code I think. Pull the door panel off and then pull out the cylinder. Takes one min. Get the number off it and give it to the locksmith. $15 later you have a perfect key. giving them the lock gets you a crap key that half the time wont open your trunk cuz the door lock has 15 yrs of use. If anything get the trunk lock as its hardly used but there is no point when you can get the number and get a perfect key.

My old partner in japan used to loose keys every other car. Ive done this too many times to count :P

Beauty, thanks for the replies everyone. Will try out that last one, taking the door panel off. Sounds good I'll post again when I'm done!

So I took off the panel and I pulled out the cylinder but the only characters on it are "R", "HC", and a "4".

Anyone with results yet? Old thread, but I am looking to replace all my key cylinders. If I can get a key remade from nissan, it would save me alot of $$$.

when i lost my car keys i called a locksmith. i still think that it is the best alternative from the dealer. they usually have lower prices and they are way more faster than a dealer. anyway, concerning this topic you will find a lot of suggestions and information in this other forum too http://www.carkeyadvice.com/forum/forum.php
                    i hoe this can help!

There is a 4 digit code marked on the key and also the same 4 digit code is on the door lock cylinder

I've lost my key recently and I have contacted Kingston Nissan who deals with jdm skylines with my info as I've seen advice relating to this 4 digit code online...

Ill post whether or not they are able to help me out with getting a working key ordered for my car without having a locksmith or changing cylinders etc..

I know it is possible to get this done, just don't know if I can order it here in Canada
In any case here is some advice for anyone who has their keys in their pocket

Take out your key, and write down the 4 digit code that is stamped on it onto a piece of paper and stick it in a safe place cause you'll never know when you'll need it. I need it now and I am very glad that its been n the notes section of my iPad for the last few months.

Sorry, I know that I am resurrecting an old thread but this is currently relevant to me, hope somebody can chime in. I have the 4 digit code off of my door cylinder, but am skeptical that this will help to cut an ignition key. Isn't this code only good for a passenger lock key, or will this also correspond with my ignition key??
