  • RB25 into R32 - Engine Mount Question

    Hey guys,

I've searched this topic over and over but seem to have come up short of a clear answer. I'm installing what appears to be a Series 1 RB25DET into my HCR32 and I'm unsure what the situation with the motor mounts is. Some people say just use the RB20 mounts, but I've also read that you need to swap the motor mount brackets on the RB25 engine block itself to the RB20 brackets?

Other info I heard is that RB25 motor mounts are the same and should drop right in, which clearly isn't the case because the motor does not bolt in right now and I've wasted a night trying to get this thing bolted in.

Can anybody who's done the swap please chime in? I'd greatly appreciate a second of your time.

Ok I used rb20 engine mounts. But unless you originally had a automatic the holes for the transmission won't line up and you'll have to do something with it. I need to find out what people do because I haven't done anything with it yet
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

I'm a bit tired, so I'm gonna ask for clarification: If your hcr32 originally had an automatic trans, the rb25 trans WILL bolt up? Or won't?

Sorry, going on a few hours of sleep here.

i think what he meant was that its the tranny mount that wont line up
understeer -is when you go off the road and see the tree that kills you
oversteer-is when you go off the road backwards and dont see the tree that kills you

i used all my brackets mounts off my rb20 (power steering, ac, engine mounts and brackets)
i dont know about the tranny mount, i put a rb25 tranny in too, and all i had was the rb20 tranny mount, so i had to customize it by using 3/8 inch steel plate to lower the tranny because the tranny was up against the body

this site also has lots of things u mad need to know when it comes to the wiring, good luck!

keep in mind this info is comming from someone who doesnt even have their swap running yet! lol

            Automatic to 5 speed rb25 gearbox= win.... 5 speed 20 gearbox to a 25 gear box = fail

I know when the 240 guys do swaps they have mounts made by McKinney and they seem to hold up well and do the job. I just know there are many people on here that did these swaps and I'm surpassed no one is chiming in! I am going to try the McKinney mount. It makes sense for it to work but I would like to know for sure

              Same,

I mounted the RB25 with the RB20 mounts, and then i cut the transmission cross member added a few incehs more and drilled new holes.

nah, pretty much all its there for is to support the trans, had mine like that for coming on 2 seasons of racing etc, car making 400hp never had an issue
