  • Wiggly exhaust studs!!! Help

Im in the process of removing my exhaust manifold and found my studs to be quite wiggly (I can shake them by hand).
But due to it being super late and having to get up for work the next day I put the job on pause and went to bed. Ill try to get it figured out tomorrow but what do wiggly/loose studs mean? Does this mean I need to weld and retap my holes!??!

There busted/broken off inside. I broken 2 of mine when I did mine. If you google search you can find lots of threads on gtrc about this topic and methods on how to get them out yourself or via a machine shop. Good luck.
Traction is optional, so are zipties

i just recently encountered about 4 broken exhaust studs in my rb20 .. was freaking out at first had never removed broken studs before, did some reading and went with my gut feeling

start with a center punch and smack it with a hammer then start to drill straight into the stud with a decently small drill bit make sure you have a decent size kit available drill all the way through the stud you will feel the difference when you've gotten through

then move a size or 2 up in drill bits and repeat

take a Easyout Extractor bit available at canadian tire and other stores and place it in the hole .. if it fits about half way in or more you've drilled plenty smack it in there with a hammer and slowly turn the bit with a adjustable wrench counter clockwise

a couple of sprays of WD40 helps aswell just go very slow and you should be allright

I've removed all the studs from my engine and I've taped out the threads and ordered a brand new set of exhaust manifold studs from RawBrokerage.com Just to be safe

To be safe Do some research of your own i don't think i've left anything out but i'm sure theres more detailed How To's out there

      Good Luck
