Why RB26 cams in RB20 work but not in the 25?? HELP!

I know this has been beatin to death however I dont really understand why The RB26 solid lifter cams can be used in the RB20 head witch are hydro lifters, But people say the rb26 cams wont work in the 25det head which is also hydro?

I have a Built bottom end RB25
-arp mains tuds
-ACL Main and rods
-Eagle rods
-CP 87mm pistons
-Cosworth headgasket
-ARP Headstuds
Head has
-Full port and polish job
-3angle valve job
-Supertech Single coil upgraded valvesprings
-Ti Retainers
-Rebuilt Hydro lifters
-GReddy Inake and Exhaust adjustable cam gears

-Useing Comp turbo t68 tbb, T4
-Full race replica (I am making) tubular equal length manifold
-Jun rep. intake manifold
-Powerhouse fuel rail and ID 1000cc injectors
Going in a full shaved slicktop conversion shaved bay Z32 300ZX
ect ect ect..

So I need cams and I am out of cash, I dont even have the stock nvcs cams anymore.

So To get my motor running can I use the RB20 or RB26 cams NON NVCS to bolt to my motor and just degree it with my greddy cam gears?
Anyone know what the rb25det BTDC and ATDC numbers are?

Any input or help in this area would help VERY VERY much, Literally all I need is some cams to get this motor going!

I don't think many ppl were successful running 26 cam in a 20...


I have a poncam made for 25 and NVCS for sale, which has better lift and duration than stock 26 cam anyways.

no i need the NON NVCS, i am running greddy cam gears which need the cams with the 4 bolt holes on the front.

If you want to run those gears man you'll have to cough up some more cash. Now you could sell them and buy canes that would actual suit your application and be done with it! I'd say that's your best best

Probably can use GTR cams with Tomei solid lifter kit, Tomei valve springs for RB25DET -

yea it looks like ill just have to prolong this a little longer and save up for the tomie pon cams or possibly some kelford 272s

Why are you getting rid of the nvcs anyways? Just for the gears? If that's the case man sell the gears and get a set of brand new tomei pon cams for 700$.
