  • Upgrade turbo for an RB25

Yes I searched almost everything was rb20/r32 related

I would like to put on a turbo that will give me a little bit more, not like huge money thought, I'm not willing to spend like 1k+ on a turbo, just something decent, my buddy was saying something about a ct20, is that a good turbo? How much modification would there be to put on a different turbo

    thanks guys

Hybrid factory RB25 turbo (upgraded wheels, new CHRA, housings machined to suit). Should be good for around 400hp+ at engine and can use all the factory intake pipes, oilfeed, drain, etc (bolt on) and ECU tune, fueling, etc to suit. Factory RB25DET turbo with boost up mods is good for around 360-380hp at engine, depending on how aggressive ECU tune is.

is there a way to tell what ecu i have? I think it may be automatic while my car is a standard, because the guy in Japan did a swap on the car and I'm having a few issues when I turn up the boost to 11 psi, I really have tried a lot to figure it out but I don't know what else, someone suggested checking the ecu

Part numbers on sticker on ECU casing.

Stock R33 ECU doesn't like more than 10psi. If stock R33 ECU detects knock, stock R33 ECU protects engine from blowing up by pulling ignition timing, injecting more fuel, etc. On R33 stock ECU it can pull ignition timing to 0 which stops engine accelerating and reaching higher rpm.

Auto ECU is similar, just has a few tables that are set different (pulls timing during gearchanges) to manual ECU, I think ignition map is different to match the 5 degrees advance that is usually added by adjusting CAS (base ignition timing).

What really stock ecu doesn't boost over 10 psi? That would explain it. What ecu can I get? Or is there a way to chip stock ecus like hondas? Thx

I checked my ecu, its an automatic ecu, how bad is this in a standard car?
