  • top mount manifold

    hey guys,

i'm getting a larger turbo for my rb and i cant seem to find many options for top mount exhaust manifolds. the only ones i can find are 800+ or ebay special. is there anything in the middle ground? t3 flange with external wastegate...

lol im in the same boat buddy. the ebays are garbage and anything else new is around 1000 bucks. i thought of trying to find a used greddy/hks for around 700 but i decided its not really worth it. instead i decided to go 6boost and if i get 2 more guys who are down it will hopefully be under 1000 bucks for the best manifold that you can buy imho

It's the exhaust swinging left to right that causes any exhaust manifold to crack or break exhaust studs. Exhaust alone can be from 4kg (titanium on racecars) up to 20-23kg (mild steel, stainless steel, depending on mufflers that are used) and that's swinging left to right on engine when cornering. Just put a flexi on front pipe (like they do on some GTR front pipes) to reduce / eliminate the swinging.

Also Sinco Customs in NZ make exhaust manifolds, guaranteed for 10 years -

I read that the Sinco exhaust manifolds retail for around $1200NZD or around $917 CAD. They seem to be popular on EVO's downunder.

i didnt know it was mainly from the exhaust swinging. i've heard it had to do with weight of the turbo/exhaust system, but swinging would make sense. thanks skym

I don't think exhaust manifold + turbo is heavy enough to break welds. Honda's use a flexi in exhaust to help stop upgraded exhaust manifold from cracking.
