  • Stock boost + Aftermarket BOV?

I put a Blitz SS bov w/ a custom heat-treated metal flange into my hcr32 skyline running 6-7 psi stock boost (not 100% on stock boost gauge) After installing, I sealed off the waste gate closest to the throttle body and put the newer bov in the lower turbo piping down by the rad/engine block. After driving, I lost 4 pounds of boost. People are telling me I will have some turbo lag from bov, but 4 pounds of boost? What is this! What do you guys think? Thanks!

Lag = bad BOV or placement of BOV. Engine should get onto boost quickly with next to no feeling of lag from engine. I used to get lag with modified stock BOV when going from offboost to on boost, but not with a Synapse BOV.

A good BOV should allow more air to reach engine and A/F ratio should lean out by 0.1 or so. If stock BOV was leaking, can see a 20-28 peakhp gain (leaner A/F ratio) and 9hp (depends on engine) gain in transient hp, response (increase in transient response, hp is due to leaner A/F ratio).

BOV is supposed to remove the pressure that reverses direction (if don't remove pressure, can run across compressor wheel which slows down turbo and creates a flutter sound from podfilter) when throttlebody closes. It's why BOV is placed close to throttlebody.

Which position should it be in? In my opinion the first lower one would make more sence. If I do that, I still have the stock waste gate and all the vacuum lines. What I was thinking, is that the bov was to far away from the throttle body/vacuum lines. Since this BOV wasn't re-circulated it lost a crapload of vacuum (all i could think of, I'm still learning yet)

Stock location if possible. Length of vacuum hose could be a cause, but I run a long piece of vacuum hose to my cars Synapse BOV C port (quick release port) and BOV releases quickly. But I used the recommended fittings, diameter hose from manufacturer which doesn't make vacuum side of BOV or C port (boost side of BOV) leak. Airleak on vacuum side makes Synapse BOV malfunction and get flutter sound from podfilter.

stock is best. i have tried both places and with the stock location ive had compliments on how super responsive my turbo is like "holy sh*t dude do you have anti lag?!?!?" or something along those lines. i found the length and size of the line affected it alot. or the bov isnt tuned right and is just seeping the charged air out, either way i like the stock location most.

you should only stall out when you spool then engage the clutch if youre not recirc'd. basically the ecu is telling the engine "okay engine, we got that air coming on back now... wait, where the heck is that stuff? ah heck ill just say it came through and not tell any of the sensors."
