  • PCV testing and leak test

I had problem recently with my rb20det. Lost of oil were burned and the dipstick was popped. After some rescearch, poeple told me it could be my pcv or compression ring. I would like to know were the pcv valve is and how to test it. Iam not to familiar with rb20det. Would also like to know how to do a leak test if its possible at home.

Do you have a Catch Can correctly installed?????

PCV is on the intake manifold. It connects to the valve covers with the rubber hose.
Unscrew the PCV valve from the manifold, disconnect from hose .
Give PCV a light shake, there is a ball inside, it should move freely.
Try to suck air with your mouth from the threaded end, it should allow you to suck air threw it.
Now blow air threw the threaded end, it should NOT let you blow air threw.
If all is good, spray some brake/carb cleaner inside to clean it out. Re-install.
PCV can be bought at Nissan Dealer.

No I dont have a catch can installed but I have a greddy laying around. Not sure if its a real or a fake. Any way to test a catchcan?. At this point I will try it. If the engine blow up, I will be looking for an rb25det swap.

I dont know how to check a Catch Can, if u even could without opening it up.
If u decide to install catch can, install it inline with the hose that comes of Valve cover to intake pipe. PCV -> Valve Cover -> Valve Cover -> Catch Can -> Intake.
Check your Turbo Intake Accordion Pipe (if your r having a lot of blowby, there will be Oil the Pipe).

Have u been beating your car? On boost alot? On boost when engine is cold?
I would do a compression check for the general condition of each cylinder. A nice tight warm motor should be 150 psi or so, and be within 0-3% of each other.

no i just got the car out of storage one month ago and didnt use it much. I did send the car at the end of last summer for a checkup , had good compression but oil on cyl 1 and 4. At that point we conclude my valve seal were worn. I will check the turbo intake pipe for any residu.

You are goin to need it sooner or later. Find yourself Nissan Fast.
Its Nissans parts software. It will give u the Part #s u need.
Or look for one in a R32 part out sale thread.
