  • Turbo tick?

Maybe this is a slight bit mis-labeled. But basically what happened, I put a blitz bov on my car. I didn't removed the stock pipe that has the stock waste-gate on it. I just completely sealed it off (re-circulation and other rubber intake peice forgot name =3) Anyways, I put that on and tightened the hose clamps and such and took it for a rip. While driving it I was driving with only 3 pounds of boost instead of my normal 6. That isn't my issue but I think it's gonna be relevant. Now, I have a ticking sound at about 3-4 psi. It ONLY does it at 3-4 psi, if I run full 6 it has no ticking. (turbo runs, and spools normally and fine) I figured it was a turbo leak, and looked to see my dumbass friend over-tightened the hose clamps and bent them. I replaced ALL of my turbo hose clamps and made sure they were secure and tightened. I still have the issue! I talked to one of my mechanics, and he said it may be a lack of air intake. Other than that I have NO clue what the issue could be.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I wanna drive my car! =(

    Thanks

oh i know that ticking noise my car does the same thing, its definatly not the turbo i just upgraded does the same thing. If you listen the noise is not coming from the engine bay its coming from the dash somewhere. I've never been able to track it down but its weird cuz like i said its definatly in the dash and only happens around 4 pounds of boost. Thinking its almost the HVAC system or something. Car pulls just right it tries to counter the effects. I could be wrong on what it is but its definatly not your motor.

honestly its been doing it in my car for 2 years, just got sick of looking for it haha. Just appeared one day, thought it was the motor started playing with the tune never went away, motor shows no signs of having a problem all gauges and spark plugs look good so i carry on ticking haha

so after we had this convo i did some more driving and did some more research. From what i've found on the net apparently the tick is actually a tiny exhaust leak over one of the cylinders and after listening to it more i think engine bay is correct. The sound is definatly not engine internal related but a leak may be correct. So i'm going to make sure my bolts are tight and if that does not work manifold has to come off and throw some silicone in there to help i think.

I've found on my car that the tick sound can come from FPR, injectors, leaking camcover seals (can hear lifter sound where it leaks which is on exhaust side, near firewall), leaking exhaust manifold (as mentioned above).

What do you plan on doing for this or what would you recommend? I'm wanting to get this fixed asap. I may get a whole new exhaust system in the near future if it i spossible to fix that w/ that. :3

Replace studs, coils, gaskets, etc on exhaust manifold, turbo, etc.
