I'm thinking its release bearing. Although I can't be sure.

If you are talking about the whining noise that gets louder as the rpms get higher its the input shaft bearing. . .just changed mine and now that noise is gone.

I've got the same sound coming out of my transmission (R32 GTS-t). I guess it goes off when your clutch is disengaged (pedal down)?

It's been a mystery to me too. I first replaced the clutch disk and input bearing, and it was still there. I wanted to be done with it so I ordered a brand new transmission from Nissan Japan and installed it, with a new throwout bearing, another new input bearing which was part of the new transmision, new oil, new engine and transmission supports, and the sound is still there. In the end, and after realizing I already sank way too much money into this, I gave up and continued to enjoy the car.

I did all this two years ago and the car is still running fine. It definitely isn't perfect, but it's good to know that the issue isn't critical.

Yea.. I've also done the whole tranny rebuild - input shaft bearing, throwout etc.. Noise is still persistent. Very strange indeed, however it's been fine for 2 years with no hiccups.. I just keep my clutch depressed at lights, otherwise people think my supercharger is spooling up..

Mine does it, too. Back when Ztune was still around they figured it was the output shaft bearing. I'm going on about 2 and a bit years of ownership, it's never really bothered me much. Apparently it's not hurting anything so meh :P

If you find it annoying just get a louder exhaust.

Nope... as I said, I replaced it and the exact same sound was still there.

Output shaft bearing. It's apparently often misdiagnosed as input shaft bearing. Input shaft noise: When clutch pedal depressed. Output shaft noise: When clutch pedal not depressed.

Edit: I am not a mechanic.
