  • Coilpack Cover and Ignitor Harness.

    Hey All,

So My skyline came without a coilpack cover, Everyone says its great for cooling and to not worry about it. But its ugly as balls. Was given an rb20 coilpack cover ( +10 pts to em-5ive).

I know this installation shouldnt require a thread. But when went to do the 30 min job of installing it, i could not figure out how to rout the wires to the ignitor chip. I know where they are supposed to reach. The one plug that goes from the Coil pack harness to the Ignitor seems way shorter and wont reach the pass through on the back of cover.

I immediately assumed my Harness was rewired, but after looking at harnesses on the internet they all seem the same as mine.

I understand this should be simpler than understanding turbo spool and the likes, but before i go take apart the stock SMIC piping it would be great to get some insight.

    Peace

    -jordie

Does anyone have any insight on this.

From memory there's a slot (I think with a rubber grommet?) where coilpack harness / loom goes through coilpack cover.

Can see the rubber grommet on left side of ignition module and little wire (earth) on right side of ignition module in this photo -

The ignition module should bolt onto coilpack cover with a earth under one of the bolts. Then plug coilpack loom onto drivers side (right hand drive car) of ignition module and main loom onto passenger side of ignition module. Done.

If don't earth it, I was told by autosparky that it can blow ignition fuse.

thanks Skym, The Problem i am having is that the Connector that in the above pic is on the left of the ignitor seems too short to reach the grommet hole in the coilpack cover. but i guess i can just carefully see if i can gather some slack in the wire to make it fit. I just dont want to break any 20 yr old brittle plastic, or break any connections in the harness.

As far as I know, it can happen (can't remember if it was too short or long), if you use another loom from another RB engine. Or it gets hard, brittle due to heat / age and gets hard to bend, plug in. Coilpack loom, injector loom are meant to be replaced as part of routine maintenance. I've replaced coilpack loom, but need to do injector loom.

Another thing to look at is the bend over brass looking tie downs for coilpack loom, near top of coilpacks (from memory). Sometimes loom gets caught up on those and could shorten the length of loom.
