  • Exhaust gas temp light

    well hello again all.

    RB20det
    rom tune
    boost controller
    hks mushroom
    splitfire coils
    apexi downpipe
    stock cat

so was driving today and the Exhaust gas temp light decided to let me know that the bulb was not burnt out!

it came on and stayed soild for a bit then started to fade back and forth. its not flashing on and off.
let the car cool down and upon start up light was solid.

weirdly noticed that power steering cuts in and out since the light coming on and evan breaks felt as if the brake booster was not functioning

sorry if this is a topic talked over and over about, from what i could read online that it could be the cars check engine light. but that may only be if the car has a PFC?

so what im trying to ask if you have a oem ecu that has a rom chip(dyno tuned) does that Exhaust gas temp light only come on for Exhaust gas temp reasons or will it come on if in limp mode?

    THANKS!

If exhaust temps in catylitic convertor excede I think was 850? degrees C the cat light can light up (need to replace cat). Also if stock ECU diagnostic pot (screw on side of ECU) is not in run mode, more into diagnostic mode that cat light can light up (engine check light), then not when hit bump in the road.

Also if have weird electrical problems, I would look into replacing battery if more than 3 years old and check alternator, check earths, check belts, check fluid levels.

It is also the check engine light. Had exactly the same thing happen to mine. If the exhaust temp sensor is not completely grounded it will come on an off, similar to what you described. I have no cat so I grounded it to the chassis and no more flickering light.

When HICAS ECU gets low voltage it can affect powersteering (HICAS ECU controls the weight of powersteering). That and weird electrical problems is why I think it's battery or alternator related. A mobile auto sparky (auto electrician) can test battery, alternator if you don't have the equipment.
