  • GTS-4 Rear Diff Whine

    Hey Guys,

So i have a R32-GTS-4 that had a two way diff in it which wasn't fun for my daily driver. I bought a second hand oem rear diff of here and now it whines like crazy. Wondering what my options are for getting rebuild kits?

Or what route i should take to stop the whining. I have already put redline fluids in the diff and its still whines like crazy only on throttle. The car never did this until i replaced the diff yesterday.

The symptoms include only whine on light throttle and above 60km

    Any help appreciated.

    Paul

Probably the bearings inside diffhead (output shaft's?) or someone shimmed it too much (happens on Viscous LSD diffheads when shimmed too much). From what I understand, shimming is to adjust the backlash. If there's no clunk noise when backing off throttle (backlash), then it's probably been shimmed too much (more than one shim). As far as I know, the LSD part is unserviceable.

Shims, gasket for rear diffhead cover, bearings, etc should be able to be bought from Nissan Dealership parts department or someone that sells factory parts.

Considering that the oem diff I got had the factory seal still on the diff cover. I doubt it was shimmed. Any other causes of this whine? Bad diff ?

Bearings will whine. Had the same issue on a Nissan Titan. The bearings were adjustable, not sure about an r32 though, never opened one up.
