  • Body Panels?

    hi,

Just wondering what body panels are interchangable among the 89-93 Skylines. I have a 93 GTS-T and i need a drivers side rear quarter and a drivers side door. Any help would be great.

    Thanks

I think door's would be the same. I'm not sure. I have 2 mint GTR 1/4 panels and a drivers door.

1/4's Ill sell for $500 + Shipping comes with rear 1/4 windows.
Door $250 + Shipping comes with window.

All is dent free/rust free in fresh black paint.

If 1993, make sure the car you get 1/4 panel, door from is a Series 2 R32 (1991-1993). Series 1 R32 (1989-1991) has the shorter wheelbase, overall length, so panels, doors have probably been changed to suit.

We got bored one day, so decided to measure a R32 1989 4 door, 1990 2 door and 1992 4 door and we found the overall length, wheel base was different on the 1989 4 door, 1992 4 door. The 1990 2 door had the same wheelbase, length as the 1989 4 door. So we worked out the R32 Series 1 2 door, 4 door are the same, but overall length, wheelbase changed on R32 Series 2 2 door, 4 door (knowing from measuring the 1989 4 door, 1990 2 door that 2 door and 4 door use the same wheelbase, length).

Also noticed differences like taller A pillar (front window), etc on 4 door (roof is flat looking on 4 door, not angled down towards front like found on 2 door roof). The weights changed as well (extra side intrusion beams in doors, etc on Series 2). It's amazing what you learn when comparing them.

^ Doesn't make sense, most manufactures don't change up platforms like that. New tooling for floor pans, inner/outer rockers(sills), doors and glass, roof and frame rails would all need to be retooled. Major changes like that usually come in the form of a new gen chassis, interior, and body styling, hence R33.

After some intense net searching only differences I could find between the two are the addition of side impact bars in the doors and cosmetic changes in the interior for series 2.

Just because the 4 door changed doesn't mean the 2 door changed. Technically 4 doors and 2 doors are not exactly the same platform, only sharing similar parts and styling ques. The 4 door may have shared it's base platform with another model which may have been changed with planned use beyond R32 production?

From what I understand, from research I've done into it, they changed the wheelbase due to instability problems with R32 when cornering (some say they could have moved subframe mounting points on chassis to lengthen wheelbase and changed bumper design, bumper support design to change overall length). On R33 they lengthened the wheelbase more and slightly shortened wheelbase on R34. I gather the shorter wheelbase is one of the reasons behind why the R32 has better turn in than R33, R34.
