rb25det really hot

Just put a rb25 in my skyline and its running really really hot like hot to the touch, I can't put my finger on the engine for longer then 2 seconds before I have to take it off so I just wanted to know if they are suppose to run that hot or not, some people say they are some say they are not suppose to so I just wanna see if I can get some more opinions

I think it sounds normal, every engine is like that when it's been running.
If you are worried then flush your cooling system and refill with some good coolant and it should be fine.

we did that and the thermostate is not opening, but it got so hot it actually burnt a buddy of mine

Mine feels real hot too, almost can't touch it, but looks fine on the gauge, just installed a nismo low temp thermostat but didn't really notice any difference, is the gauge not working after the swap?

Always heard a thermostat will fail to the open position, not sure if that's correct though, never actually had one fail

If the thermostat is not opening then that would be the problem.

not sure my temp gauge is not working so im gonna get it towed to redline performance they think its airlocked

Airlock can happen if not bled properly. Also could be waterpump blades have corroded or making wacking noise, failed thermostat, blocked radiator.

When thermostat failed on my car, it wouldn't open until around 95 degrees (tested thermostat after removing) and had 15% blocked radiator. Stock thermostat should open at around 76.5 degrees. Nismo thermostat is at around 62.5 degrees. The way we found out the thermostat wasn't opening, was touching bottom radiator hose and compared to top radiator hose. Bottom radiator hose was cold and top radiator hose was warm (thermostat not opening).

thats exactly what it is skym i also dont have a fan atm because the rb25 fan is to big, but the therm is brand new i guess i should find out what temp it opens at

You don't have a fan? As in at all?
The clutch fan on the rb25 puts out a lot of air flow, you should Atleast have a rad fan or two. Flush the coolant, put in some royal purple coolant additive, should knock temps way down. Get some fans first thy will make the world of difference.

That's what I figured but I don't think it should be that hot like it actually burnt a friend of mine hand when we changed the thermostat and the car was shut off for about half hour 45 mins, but you think it's normal for it to be that hot with out fan? I know I should have one but the fan broke during install

Any engine will be hot to the touch and even burn your hand when it's off
Im replacing my valve cover gasket on the hot side because of the high heat generated from my turbo
My exhaust temp gasses get as high ad 1,200, oil at 220, all those engine parts ate metal and are gonna absorb and hold that heat. Your clutch is so important it's not even funny not generates a lot of cooling power pushing the hot air away. Get some rad fans also, the oem clutch fan first. Your temps will be much less, rb's run hot

Engines get hot, especially when there are no fans to cool it. That information would have been useful in your first post
