  • manual boost controller?

so i bought my car a couple months ago. still haven't gotten around to learning all the ins-and-outs. i just realized the other day that my front seats have pouches on the back for storage. so i was rustling around in them and i found this.

now i'm pretty sure it's an mbc, but i don't know for sure and i damn sure have no idea what kind of mbc it is. if anyone knows anything about this style or make, or if it isn't an mbc, what it is. any info would be appreciated. thanks!

so i tried installing it today. doesn't seem to be able to flow anymore than 10 psi through to the actuator. not sure if that's it's maximum or if i'm an idiot and ****** it up (kinda hard, it's only a one-way valve) kind of annoying. i was hoping for a free boost upgrade

Looks like it could be from princess auto, they have valves there can be used for a mbc, like 8 bucks

i also have a mbc. it's also the home depot style as well but a little different than yours but i'm sure they function the same! take it apart and make sure there's a spring and ball in there. also make sure the bleeder hole isn't plugged! here's the plumbing diagram that i went off of. it worked for me and boosts to 14psi everytime, no spiking at all. make sure to try to use the shortest length of tubing as possible, this reduces spiking!

i tore it all apart yesterday to see if anything was clogged or missing and everything seems fine. the only things i noticed are that the outlet nipple is smaller than the inlet (is that normal?) and the spring seems to have been cut. i'm wondering if the spring is maybe too tight?

hmm try playing around with it on the car. turning it clockwise will increase boost. i think you don't have enough tension on the spring, and that causes air to go straight through the mbc and into the wastegate which will result in no boost increase. it takes time to find the right boost setting, it took me about 20mins :P make sure to spool up on a higher gear when you're testing though. good luck!
