  • suspension mods

im aware that there are alot of similarity's of the eary nissan suspensions, im slowly doing mods to my 91 gtst for drifting and a big mod for 240 guys is rack and knuckle upgrades for more steering basiaclly. is front 240 suspension the same as gtst 2wd's? or do any of you guys know of any company's that make knuckle upgrades specifically for these things?

As far as I know, to increase steering angle on R32 GTS-T you fit a S13 steering rack and washers / spacers (left, right side of rack itself). But I think have to relocate tension rods to avoid fouling swaybar, etc. Stock R32 steering rack with washers / spacers doesn't give as much steering angle as the S13 rack.

These are the washers / spacers -

A pair of machined 4mm thick zinc plated BMW steering lock spacers. They fit in between the tie rod and steering rack to allow more steering angle. 4mm is the maximum thickness you can fit without blowing your rack seals. Your toe / tracking will need adjusting by 4mm each side to compensate for the lock washer. *Safety Warning* When using these lock spacers, we recommend use of a good quality thread lock/ lock tight.

Also I've been hearing about using R33 LCAs but haven't researched it any.

S13 uses Mcpherson design while R32/Z32 uses a wannabe "double A-arm" design.

If you are serious about drifting, just swap the entire front to S13/14 for more steering lock/lighter front end but the handling will be more noodly like any crappy Nissan Mcpherson design (not that our faux-double A-arm is much better anyways)

Hope that gives you somewhere to start from.

right on, im probably going to look into a rhd s13 rack with spacers for starters. i did some research and it looks like you need some adapters for the lines and you wouldnt be able to use the hicas but im not anyway, prices dont look to bad either

no need to get s13 rhd rack, yours will work fine. Just get rack spacer and stronger inner tie-rods. GTS outer tie rod fits S14 knuckle.

You could look look up Powerbymax, the offer a Diy weldable kit for R32 gtst knuckles. They do not however offer there welding services inhouse for gtst knuckles.

Check out my build thread for angle ideas. Project Driftsicle.
Traction is optional, so are zipties

R33 flcas are about 10 mm longer each side than r32 gtst. Gives about -3 camber if I recall correctly. Longer flcas are generally used for more negative camber, and to not hit the tension rod/swaybar when you have more angle.

^This. No need for an s13 rack. I'd even say the s13 front suspension isn't necessary - the driftworks guys converted to it so that they can use their bolt on s-chassis knuckles. r32 double wishbone may be heavier, but it can sure take abuse lol

^This too lol. The most angle increase will come from using knuckles. PBM kit is a good option, as long as the welding is top notch.

r32s come with crappy angle compared to s-chassis. With some mods such as knuckles you can definitely get lots more though. I'd say start out with the steering rack spacers and go from there.

There was more options mentioned in this thread:
