  • 89 r32 trans rebuild

Hi guys, I'm currently rebuilding my transmission in my rb20 swapped 240. I know the rb20, sr20, and ka24 all use the fs5w71c but it seems that after tearing down my transmission completely, the difference between the s13 and r32 transmission is the 3rd gear. My 3rd gear uses dual baulk rings, just like the 2nd gear, but the s13 does not. Also, the shifter hub uses the same shifting springs as the 4th gear hub, rather than the s13 style solid metal with snap rings to hold them in.
I originally was going to use an s13 rebuild kit to replace all my bearings and baulk rings, as not one of my baulk rings are within specification, and 1st gear is at the wear limit. Now I have a dilemma of how to replace my 3rd gear synchronizers... Is there another Nissan transmission that utilizes the dual baulk setup on 3rd gear? Or another version of the fs5w71c that was used in north America that has the same setup? Thanks in advance.

Get a '71c from a 240sx or any other ka24 based vehicle (hardbody) and swap over the bellhousing + front cover

You might get a working one cheaper than a rebuild kit... worst case you can still rebuild it

In that case I'd need to have my driveshaft shortened 4 inches.. Not really looking to do that.

I've found out that the z32 Fs5r30 has multipiece baulk rings in second and 3rd gear also. Does anyone know if these syncros have the same dimensions as the rb20 synchros?
