Aircare issue

hey guys,

my Aircare has expired for a while and my insurance needs to be renewed soon, so I took my car for a test couple weeks ago and it failed badly.

Well the main reason is that I don't run a cat, and my car is tuned very rich.
you would probably say why I am not running a cat for the test, well it's a long story, but basically my exhaust is custom 3" turbo back, and it's not fitted with a test pipe, so I would have to get a welder to put flanges to fit the cat under, and that's gonna be ~$300, and still i think it would fail because of running too rich.

however, I have Nistune chip in my ECU and I thought maybe I can tune it to run lean for the test, but don't have much experience tuning cars.

to give you general info about the car it's a RB20 with garrett 2871 turbo, GTR injectors and fuel pump, full 3" exhaust and nistune ecu.

anyone has tried tuning their cars and passing aircare with no cat??

I'm shocked they even let you test. Normally no cat = no test

So your answer. Get a cat and a tune.

Your exhaust stainless? I do welding at home so I could weld something in but I'll have to check to see if I have the stuff for stainless.

Yeah it's stainless.

The guy checked under the car and didn't even ask any question, and checked the cat presence box. probably a newbie.

if you want a shop that will get it to pass for cheap. pm me. he has a skyline specific exhaust ready to go or will make something work with youre existing exhaust.

Very good option. Pain in the ass but its only every 2 years.

What year is your GTR ? Mine has to go every year

dusty, she's not a GTR, gts-t and a 1992. i think mine should be ok for 2 years after this.

hopefully they will get rid of the stupid thing in 2014.

And mine is expired again in December lol

What happened with mine and I'm sure it helped a lot is my exhaust was too close to the bumper to actually get the cone over the tip. So they had to put it back about a foot and set it on a block. It passed with flying colours and it probably shouldn't have passed at all. Just a thought.
