  • Turbo for rb20?

    Hey There,

    I currently have a RB20DET with a • 55mm inducer compressor wheel
    • "E" compressor cover 3.0" inlet/2.0" outlet
    • 57mm exducer T31, 76 trim turbine wheel
    - T3.63 A/R
    • 360° journal bearing system

    I'm currently making 355whp at 20psi.

I want to change the turbo to a smaller one because of the lag, what size and mm should i switch to? I still want to make above 300whp

Holset hx35 is a good choice. Lag isn't entirely terrible and it will boost more than your engine is probably willing to take. You can easily maintain the same power level.

Have you tried a good tune? And by good I mean tuned for the larger turbo. You should be at 32 to 36 deg. of ign. advance just before you hit about 7 #s of blow. Makes a huge difference.

Have you even tried this set up before? It will be extremely laggy.

What turbo works on SR20DET works on RB20DET (both 2 litre engines). But I think exhaust housing A/R is where the difference is to get the response on both engines.

Sometimes it's the intercooler size, camtiming, exhaust size + shape to just name a few. Without knowing the setup around the turbo, hard to say what's causing the lag.
