  • Wheel Bearing question

My front bearings are starting to get extremely noisy now after 150,000 km of driving. Now I have already bought a pair of OEM bearings from Nissan but have not had a chance to pop them in. it was first the front left that made noise in turns, now (i think) the front right is noisy as well.
now my question is, is it also necessary to do the rears as well? considering my mileage and all, i also drive my car everyday, she's no garage queen.

    car is 1992 GTS-T type M

    thx

If the rears aren't making any noise then I'd leave them for now. Generally it's the front ones that tend to go first.

the thing is car by itself is loud and with the front bearings being noisy I can't really tell the rears are failing or not. since im doing a bunch of suspension work soon (fuca-ruca,hicas delete etc) thought maybe replace the rear bearings as well.

        ..so do the rear aswell..
Daryl is right, fronts always go first because theyre under a lot more load while breaking, cornering etc.
but despite the advice, it seems like youve already decided on doing the rear wheel bearings anyways.
Im sure Daryl will be glad to sell you a set.

You can't go wrong replacing the rears if you are already dismantling the rear anyway. Personally, I'm one to be proactive on replacing things, but it doesn't necessarily mean you have to.

Is your car lowered with more than stock camber and wider wheels than factory???

If so, it's common for hub bearings to fail. Front would go first due to more camber than rear, especially when car is lowered and have no adjustable upper arms, etc to correct it.

Most bearings you can pop the side, regrease them (maintenance) if haven't failed.

There are stronger factory wheel bearings you can fit from another model if car is lowered, more camber, wider wheels. I think was from a Nissan Cima (from memory), but not 100% sure. Nismo know (it's and upgrade for their GTR racecars with wider wheels, more camber), so best to ask them.

thx for the help guys, i have decided to get them done.

Skym, you are correct. I was running staggered 18"s (8",9") on kts coilovers for couple years. now i have gotten many adjustable suspension parts and thought might as well get them all done at the same time. i will prob just go OEM though since i have other suspension parts to support and correct the geometry this time.

update on this, fyi, oem bearings are $200 each side from the dealer. not gonna happen now. i already have $1400 worth of parts sitting around uninstalled.

And how are you supposed to do that? (serious question)
