Looking at some universal kits for about $130 if I can piece everything together. The core is LARGE and i can imagine it would cause a big drop in oil temp. Is it worth it to invest in an oil cooler/relocation kit? and what are the benefits you would receive other than lower overall engine temp.

Benefits of Oil Cooler?

in my personal experience, i owned an arc cooler on my old gtr, It worked really well on keeping oil temp down expecially on those hotter days. I had no complaints about it. I wouldnt go with a cheap cooler ive heard they leak out after a short period of time92,94,95 Honda Civic

If using car on racetrack or doing long motorway trips (similar to racetrack) where there's high oiltemps you will need a engine oilcooler. Also means (with engine oilcooler installed) when you arrive at home, just check that oiltemp is safe, turn engine off. Basically don't need to run it on a turbo timer (wait 1-3 minutes for oiltemps to drop to a safe oiltemp before turning engine off).
Oilcooler stops oil getting too hot and when oil is too hot it gets too thin and breaks down (can run a bearing if oil gets too thin). For turbo it means the same as engine (bearing failure if oil gets too thin), but hot oil can create sludge build up (known as coking) which blocks oilways to bearings inside CHRA of turbo (centre part of turbo). Also coking can happen if oiltemps are not safe and turn engine off, which later on result's in turbo failure (bearing failure or wail sound from turbo as compressor wheel touches compressor housing).
What oiltemp oil breaks down depends on what w?? rating oil your running.
To work out what oiltemps engine is reaching, you fit sensor adaptor plate under oilfilter and fit oiltemp, oilpressure gauges. Once you have the oiltemp (with engine oilcooler installed), then can select w?? oil to suit.
Oilcooler core size will depend on mods on engine. With engine oilcoolers you don't cheap out, as it can cost you a engine. The cheaper fittings, etc can leak.RESPONSE MONSTER
