Wondering if anyone has any information on the relationship between ignition timing and boost. Also, if anyone knows what the stock ecu timing map looks like. Does the stock map retard timing under boost sufficiently when using a boost controller? Would it be worth it to knock the base timing down a couple degrees if you were running a higher boost pressure (assuming fairly stock engine)?

Ignition timing vs. Boost

It does drop boost level when ignition timing is pulled, runs engine richer (around -2psi on dynochart).
When stock ECU pulls ignition timing it pulls it from around 3500rpm up to 6000rpm (where stock fuel map is leanish), adds more fuel (around 0.7:1 richer) which drops torque in the midrange and looks like a V. Above 6000rpm ECU does nothing with ignition timing, as stock fuel map is usually rich in that area (into 10's with stock car).
Minimum it would be worth running a hardwired bigger lph fuelpump, retuning ECU to suit on dyno. To do it properly add injectors, new injector loom, Z32 MAF, Z32 MAF plug, new FPR or adjustable FPR to that list.Last edited by Skym; 02-06-2013, 05:28 PM.RESPONSE MONSTER

How do you go about hardwiring the fuelpump? Is there a DIY I could look at?
Edit: found a DIY for adding the relay and grounding the negative, looks simple. Will this richen up the mix throughout the rpm range? I'll be running stock ecu so cannot retune, still suggest this? May be able to adjust fueling with SAFC and a wideband.Last edited by ToroGTS; 02-07-2013, 12:32 PM.

Can buy a fuelpump hardwire kit with instructions -
Upgrade with DeatschWerks' high-performance fuel injectors, pumps, regulators, lines and fittings. Engineered for 400–2200 HP, built for racers and tuners worldwide.
Raises fuel pressure at idle (into low 40's, up from factory 35.5psi), throughout powerband. Engine runs richer where injectors are open more at mid to higher rpm (runs into 10's or richer if boost level isn't raised).
You need to remove fuel by closing injectors hence ECU tune. Can auto tune fuel map if have a wideband, Nistune and input say stock fuel map info into auto tune map and set cells slightly richer. But wouldn't be able to match ignition timing to suit without dyno.RESPONSE MONSTER
