  • rb25det radiator fan broken!

so the white plastic fan on the fan hub that sits behind/underneath the rad shroud is cracked on the base, is it possible that another one will work off of a different usdm car or even a different motor ? or where could i find one? and what is the actual name for this part?

My rad fan on my rb25 is the same, little cracks near the hub of the fan.. Still works..

Photo of cracks? I assume you mean around the clutch (middle of fan)???

That's strange, shouldn't crack unless someone tightened fan down incorrectly (too tight) onto clutch or dropped fan when was removed from engine (changing cambelt, etc).

As far as I know, R33 GTS25T, R34 GTT use the same fan, clutch. With those fans, have to find a engine that idles at 650rpm (use the fan, clutch off that engine). From memory the clutches on them are set differently to take into account the idle rpm engine idles at. GTR is different to GTS. It's to make fan spin at a certain speed. If put GTR fan, clutch on GTS, the fan might spin too slow due to RB26 idles at I think was 950rpm, not 650rpm like GTS engine.

Only differences I have noticed, is how far fan pokes into shroud, idle rpm with fan clutch.

You can weld plastic, so maybe look into that option???

electric fans that are thermostat controlled best preventative mod you can buy other than a larger rad

I'll look into plastic welding but if that isn't strong enough then what is the electric fan mod? Is it really expensive Or really difficult to do, or kinda just a straight bolt up couple wires ... I think that might be difficult to find a fan here in Canada for the car and what do you mean by a clutch?

You can buy plastic welding equipment or go to someone that welds plastic (they weld cracks, holes in plastic bumpers, etc before painting them, so can ask a local panelbeater who they use).

They mean run 2x fans, shroud, similar to what they run on Subaru radiators -

I would run Subaru fans (wider blade design works better), custom shroud. You add a temp switch (top radiator hose, but this temp switch is located on engine with Subaru's and has a controller to switch fans on and off) that activates fans when coolant temp reaches a certain coolant temp. It requires a relay, wiring, temp switch + controller, fitting for top radiator hose.

This type of fitting for top radiator hose (says 36mm for SR, RB engines) -

Some put temp sensor in bottom of radiator (where temp switch is for aircon fan), but if thermostat fails it gets cold in bottom of radiator and won't engage fans to cool engine.

Just like a clutch behind a engine, hence it's name. In the middle of the clutch part (front of middle of fan) there should be a coiled spring. The radiant heat from radiator heats the spring up and it expands which engages the clutch part in the middle of fan and that spins the radiator fan faster. When clutch fails (known to when engine has done high km and you replace the clutch part), it can spin the fan faster thus creating I think was a weird sound (from what I can remember when it failed on my car).

You can check the clutch by spinning the fan, should spin fairly freely when engine, radiator is cold (has some resistance).

you can get everything you need for E-fans at napa i suggest a 14" single offset to the drivers side as the ps pump is in the way for a dual set up unless you run one fan as a puller behind the rad an one as a pusher in the front on passenger side like i did
