  • 3 different types of coilpacks in one engine? wat....

I took the boots off of my coilpacks to clean the springs w/ some electrical cleaner to be rahter suprised by this....

    Had one coilpack like this

    One with a smaller coil

The above two had the same part # just different contacts

the last coilpack had a very similar part number with the last number of the part # being a 2, the above 5 are 1

Didn't take a picture of the one w/ a bigger spring, but it's the exact same as the one in the above picture obviously just the exception of hte part # and spring size.

Anyone know the difference between them?

I think it's time for new coilpacks haha

-.- how the hell I ended up with coil packs from 3 different engines is beyond me.

Would using all GTR coilpacks be suitable for my 20? I have 6 solid tips, 4 smaller springs, and 1 bigger spring.

I recall gts25t having different clips for the coilpacks since the late r33 had no resistor pack...

Splitfire super direct ignition system is designed for high performance Japanese vehicles, increasing ignition peformance.

Are rb26 coilpacks viable to use for my 20 though? Same EXACT part # just different contact. (Spring/metal peice) I used one gtr coilpack all last season and had no clue. I was having engine issues but I believe it was fuel related not ignition.

I DONT HAVE A GTR, i wouldnt know, i know the soild type are from a gtr because i bought a set.

in theory it should be fine, its really just a soild tip on a spring instead of just a spring.

but that being said, there maybe some slight different resistance. this is above my pay grade now lol., anyon eelse?

i do know that old shitty coil pack clogged injectors leaky valve cover gaskets and fouled sparks are some common ailments with olders cars.

id try for new parts as 15 year used parts are just as worn and the wires inside could have failing integrity. you dont want a electrical fire on top of your engine right?

            plus it just looks cleaner.

              When I asked Nissan -

              Solid tip + spring = Series 1 RB20DET coilpack

              Spring only = Series 2 RB20DET coilpack

Sometimes the solid tip on end falls off.

Alright, I'll be switching to the gtr/solid coilpacks until funds come up for splitfire/yellow jackets!

                  Thanks guys

Goddamn I hate Nengun, where the hell are you supposed to find prices? The only thing more broken is their search engine.
