Has anyone found a 6 spd option? I was following a thread on nico a yearr or so ago about Quiktime possibly producing a bell housing to mount a t56 to an Rb, but I can't find it listed anywhere.

6 spd options?

Liberty sell upgraded T56 gearboxes and their airshifted transmission is used on the fastest GTR dragcar (they sell adaptor plates for gearbox to bell housing for the airshifted transmission and probably wouldn't be hard for them to adjust the adaptor plate design for the T56 gearbox) -
An Elite Tremec Transmission Distributor, making us the best source for all of your T-5, T-45, T-56, T-56 Magnum, TKO-500, TKO-600, 3650 and 6060 transmission needs.
Getrag 6 speed gearbox (R34GTR). Remove inner parts on transfer case, cut transfer case off, weld plate over hole and fill transfer case with oil, custom gearbox mount, crossmember, etc.
Another option is the 6 speed from a 350Z with custom adaptor plate inbetween bell housing, engine to fit on the back of a RB26, RB25, RB20, etc.Last edited by Skym; 04-14-2013, 12:49 AM.RESPONSE MONSTER

many members have done the R34GTR Getrag 6 speed conversion
some got used parts and custom fit it, other bought the whole conversion kit brand new from nismo
basically, you need to bash the transmission hole bigger, swap in the 6 speed, change clutch, keep transfer case, new supports, new rear driveshaft, new speedo cable, etc

I have seen the 350z option before, but from what I understand it doesn't hold up well to high hp. I'm very interested in a getrag swap, or t56. T56 seems to be the most affordable as its 2500 for a built trans, 650 for a bell housing, and a clutch. After that it should be just simple fab work. The getrag would be amazing but at the prices I've seen I would think the Tremec would be a better option.

It would help heaps if you were a little more chatty about what your power, engine and vehicle usage plans were.
I'm going to fire out a generic response and say that an R33 RWD 5spd is more than tough enough to handle anything you want to throw at it, save for big power drag duty. A powerglide is better for that. If you actually want to use the 6th gear for anything other than putting along the Hiway at low rpm then forget the T56. The only ones tough enough without needing major upgrades have a .5 overdrive and CANNOT be used to pull full power to top speed. Cruising only.
So if you want a 6spd that has all 6 gears avail. to you without spending a huge wad, Getrag is your only option.

The racing gearboxes are not cheap.
Liberty gearbox can handle up to around 1600hp at all 4 wheels from a drag spec RB engine.
Then there's Quaife (QBE91G is the R32-R34GTR gearbox) -
Hollinger (popular on Skyline dragcars, racecars) -
PPG (upgraded internals for rwd RB25DET 5 speed gearbox) -

Custom crossmember for rear gearbox mount, stock propshaft modified to suit. Or single piece driveshaft. Speedo cable to suit.
It works behind a RB26 (the car I saw the conversion done on). It's a bulky transmission, might foul driveshaft tunnel a bit (maybe not on R33 due to RB25DET transmission is bulky itself, but from what I can remember it does on a S chassis / 240sx).RESPONSE MONSTER
