  • awd vs. gts oil pan differences??

just to confirm a rwd oil pan will fit on a gtr-awd engine using

    -a gts oil pickup

-and of course the oil pan??

iam picking up a awd rb25 engine and i don't want any nasty last minute suprises!!

The pickups are in a different location on bottom of awd block (from what I can remember, was forward to clear 4wd), 2wd block (rear ward more). If look at bottom of 4wd block, the place where 2wd pickup goes is blanked off (holes aren't drilled for mounting bolts x2, oil feed hole). There's some photo's on the forum of this difference, search.

Can remove the front LSD and modify stock awd sump to suit rwd (easier). Or the other option is modify the stock pickup tube length, angle (cutting, rewelding) to suit rwd sump.

If I remember correctly (what someone on here said in the past) the 4wd pickup fouls the side of rwd sump.

It was ages ago, can't remember which thread. It was a R32 RB26 into R32 GTS-T.

I think it was this person, but not 100% sure -

I know Nismo sold a conversion kit (pickup, sump) for this conversion (probably still do, haven't checked).

R.I.P.S can make a custom pickup for rwd sump -

We have a wide range of RIPS high-performance products ready to ship to you anywhere in the world

4wd block has 2x different bolt patterns, one set for 4wd and one set for 2wd.

Also there's something that 2wd sump has that's different on one of the corners (ask R.I.P.S, as they know).

So I wonder how efficient my oil pick up is working.. I put an rb25 oil pan on my r33 rb26 and only modified the baffles in the rb25 oil pan not the actual pick up lengths and etc. skym? What are your thoughts?

I think it becomes a problem when the oil moves away from pickup while cornering, accelerating, braking (if not in correct position inside sump).

There was a R33 RB26 into blue rwd R33 and they used the Nismo rwd sump conversion kit (first time I heard about the Nismo sump kit).

That modified pan looks good and functional all depends on how deep your pick up sits

My rb26 is in a 240sx, so the rb26 pan would have to he modified even more then that, I can't weld aluminum either so 100$ and some modification was the path for me to fit a pan on my rb26,

The rb25 pan has baffles built in it, pretty much like the tomei baffles in that build thread, I unbolted the oem baffles from block and used the baffles on the rb25 pan, since the pick up is not exactly at the same spot I had to enlarge the hole a little

Don't mind the shitty cell phone pic

Nothing so far, I've been running it for a year now takes a while to get the pan to sit properly on the rb26 tho, but I imagine its alot more work to modify the rb26 pan in your case it might be different since its an awd rb25 I am not familiar with it

so robbie, do you think if i cut the diff and weld the baffles i still need to trim the front like in this???

my "eyeball" measurements makes it look like the cooling fins are directly on the other side of the drain plug. if thats the case then i wouldn't have to trim the front of the awd oil pan.

I beleive the rb25 sits higher with the r32 crossmember if you used McKinney mounts the rb25 would sit a few inches lower and would Definetly need to be modified, best bet is to test fit it

Syko did the rb26 swap and I beleive the complete rb26 is a few inches taller then the rb25 so they had no choice to modify the front to fit and the front is only modified to fit a sway bar, I just remembered that. You can also get a sikky sway bar that is made for big motor swaps, the sikky sway bar actually goes out further and clears the oil pan better
