  • Looking For Help with Rb25 Series 2 Swap in R32

Swapped a rb25det Series 2 in my R32, a friend of mine made a harness for it to work with rb20 ecu Modded with nistune everything hooked up but there it is not starting,

have fuel up to rail but no fuel in motor and there is no spark (im thinking) have constant to all the coils injectors cas etc but no signal

some people sayed the rb25det s1 and s2 have different cas pin outs / wiring

    anyone help out??

the ecu plug is the same for the rb20 and rb25 so what did your friend modify?? sounds like a wiring issue only he can figure out.

do you have a stock ecu you can try out??

modified it to run on rb25 motor

The Series 2 R33 RB25DET should have different TPS, ignition system (coilpacks, coilpack loom, ignition module), CAS (I think is when switched to Hitachi CAS, so CAS plug pinout should be different to Mitsubishi CAS plug pinout as found on Series 1 R33 RB25DET, RB20DET).

Pinout diagram can be found in link below, but not sure if it's for Series 1 or 2 RB25DET -

ya know the cas works but no 12v to coils
when i turn the motor over its a 9 volt and when you not turning the motor over it jumps to 12 and dies down when turning on ignition

i have 2 ignition relays maybe some thing to do with that?

i guess am i suppost to run the rb20 coil packs and ignitor or can i run the rb25 s 2 coil packs? when i tested they referenced at .2 just no spark, i believe the fuel injectors work

i am running the rb20 ecu with nistune for the rb25 s2

Auto electrics is not my strength, so don't know much about it.

Was thinking with Series 2 RB25DET, doesn't the ECU ground the ignition system to power the coilpacks via what's left over of ignition module on top of back of engine??? Then ECU fires each coilpack (makes connection to top of sparkplug via igniters) via I assume grounding????

On RB20DET the igniters would be inside the ignition module and ignition module internals is part of what charges coilpacks??, not inside each coilpack as found on Series 2 RB25DET coilpacks, R34 GTT NEO RB25DET coilpacks.

Would need to compare RB20DET pinout diagram vs Series 2 RB25DET pinout diagram to note how they have setup the wiring.

Engine manual for both engines is the only way I know of (has the wiring diagrams in the back) -

Are both relays rigged to same switch??? If they are, should activate magnetic?? switch in both relays at same time so current flows through both relays. But usually with adding a part like a electric engine fan, have one relay.
