I would say solid purchase ! If I were to do cams I would defiantly get rb20 cam gears and rb20 cams to suit. With larger turbos the VCT doesn't have the same effect.

Not entirely true about the rb20 trans there tougher than people make them out to be, Anything below 350 - 375 wheel tourque and you should be fine.
Tested by a local shop who's been through 5 trannys varying in power
    Built R32 GTR, BW S362, 682awhp @ 28psi

3rd gear (5 speed is 4th) is usually the 1:1 gear and diffhead ratio multiplies the torque. Also overall wheel diameter changes it as well on roller dyno.

If the RB20DET engine produces 264NM at factory and is in 1:1 gear in gearbox and x by 4.336:1 (stock diffhead ratio) you get 1144.704NM at the hubs. 294NM is 1274.784NM at the hubs. That's on a hub dyno.

On a roller dyno you see 570NM at wheels for a 320hp RB20DET engine (around 1400NM on hub dyno). To compare a auto actually puts out around 800NM (around 270hp at engine, around 1100NM on hub dyno) and RB30 on same dyno is around 900NM at wheels.

My bad, you are correct, 4th is 1:1 on 5 speed transmission.

Auto is 3rd gear for 1:1 (probably what I was thinking of) and is a 4 speed trans.
