  • driving without attessa pump

    hello all, odd question,

Just picked up a 91 GTS-4 4 door. The story is that the 4wd system worked when I was going for a test drive, but since I picked up the car the 4WD light has always been on and the 4WD system has not worked since I picked up the car..... was going to diagnose the problem, however, my car was in an accident and the attessa pump in the rear boot got knocked over & spilled a lot of fluid. I was just wondering if it's O.K. to drive without the pump connected to the hoses in the back? thanks!

Yeah should be fine, just pull the fuse for now.
It might have gotten some air in the system. Try bleeding it by:

1 - keep he attessa reservoir topped up
2 - Crack the nipple at the attessa actuator (near where the rear drive shafts bolts to the transfer) It looks like a brake bleed nipple
3 - Raise the car all wheels are off the ground.
4 - Start and run the in gear until you get a steady stream of fluid coming through the nipple.

If nothing happens when you crack the nipple (no fluid comes out), then sounds like you have an electrical issue (pump not operating). For that id start at looking at both the relays which are located in the boot.

    Hope that helps.....

First start is to get the fault code from the ecu. If your 4wd light is on, the 4wd ecu will be flashing a code, the ecu is in the boot under the parcel tray. Using a mirror you will be able to see the flashing light on the ecu, google whatever number its flashing.
