Why projectors? Is that mandatory in BC? In ON we only need DRL.

Don't waste your money. Just put some ugly ass thing in there to pass and then put the factory lights back in again. They still seem to want the DOT lights for inspection but don't really care afterwards....over 4 years now with the OEM lights and no issues.

no, the reason why i want projector lights just because thats the real deal. and i am planning to take apart my headlights to clean inside the lens and headlights itself, 18 years of not cleaning does some wear. just some tlc, but since its apart mine as well make it legit with the projectors.

just curious to see if anyone has done something like this before.
        thanks

I believe it's been done, but in B.C. I think the outside lens must say DOT on it so unless you are going to run no lens not technically legit. Still probably better then the factory projectors though

            Bingo....

The beam isn't any better and unless DOT is etched on the lenses of the projectors you are wasting your money. Guys in BC have done all kinds of crapola to try and make the factory lights acceptable...but in the end, no DOT marking, no love.

The is a way to take apart the factory projectors and use some cut up pop cans or sheet brass from a hobby shop to alter the beam a bit but i have seen the beams of both the stock and altered and it's pretty much a waste of time...especially when it will still fail. The Hella projectors have also failed as far as i know.....again no DOT etching on the lense, no good.

Nic, Dragon Humper is right, you need the DOT markings on the lens. Here is my retofit using Porche projectors, awesome light but still not legal. Knock on wood I have never been pulled over for these projectors and they are very distinctive.

hello, the hella lights are dot approved.. they have the sae symbol on the projector itself, i talked to a shop that if they saw the projector before installing then seen it after, they would right me a letter saying that my lights are sae approved, but again this is all for my own pleasure..

And again, in BC it does matter if you have a letter from the Pope, if there is no DOT or SAE actually embossed on the lens glass itself it will not pass. Stupid?...yes.

You could get the shop you are getting the inspection done at to witness you putting the projectors in to satisfy the requirement...if they choose to accept that...they don't have to, but it would be a one time deal. If you get pulled over for a VI the DOT endorsement on the back of the projector housing isn't good enough.....unless you happen to have a letter from the federal agency that looks after that stuff....maybe.

Now that MAY have been relaxed the last year or so as i have heard from some CVSE dudes that they arent that concerned with the JDM headlites after the first inspection that much any more. BUT...its just like the Customs guys, it dosent matter how you did it, if DOT is not on the lens, you fail.

thanks for the input, its just dumb that they dont make a aftermarket headlight for the r33. soo much easier in soo many ways haha

There are projectors that have DOT actually lazer etched onto the glass, if you can find some of those you are good as long as the headlight housing in front of it has no refracting properties at all...must be perfectly clear. The Hella ones don't have that for some reason.
