  • How to Remove HICAS on R32 GTR!!

    Hey everyone!
    Alright i worked on this mostly with Sydneykid from Skyline Austrilia. Im going to put a Hicas Lock bar on my GTR and i wanted to know whats going to happen to the rest of the system mainly the power steering lines. When you remove the rear steering rack there are 2 power steering lines IN and OUT i though i can loop those and everything would be alright. You cant block the lines because it will ruind you power steering pump. You will see what im talking about in the picture below.



    Now the picture below will show you where to loop the power steering lines and get rid of all the extra parts you dont need and reduce weight. THe blue dot is where the power steering line goes through the oil cooler system, keep the oil cooler system in the loop, it will help the power steering fluid keep cool. The red dots is where you should loop the power steering lines. This way you will bypasses the HICAS solenoids completely, and you could remove the solenoids which will give you more room to change the oil filter also! hehe... for the people who arent using Oil filter relocation kit!



    Im going to add another picture below to show you exacly how the Hicas system is setup under the hood with all the power steering lines, you get a better idea where to loop the power steering lines. And it shows the oil cooler.

    Hey everyone! OK i want to remove my Hicas system on my BNR32 and all i want to know is is it ok to connect (rubber hose) the 2 power steering lines that come to the HICAS unit?     Very nice write up man!

    Does the same apply to the R32 GTS though?

    With my old 240 I was disabled the system by pulling the fues to the HICAS Control Module (thus) locking up the system. According to Nissan the wheels do lock up straight and I never had any issues with it at all after. I even got used to the red light being on all the time too .

    I know that the Skyline's got the "better" HICAS system though and I'm not sure if the same would apply to these cars.

      I've always said that it would be easier to run a 33/34 P.S. pump that doesn't have the second stage for the HICAS. That way you have no lines to plug/loop, etc..

      Just cleaner IMO.

        You guys realize it takes 5 minutes to remove the back part of the power steering pump and take out the blades for the rear.......rendering that part of the pump inoperable and then you just have to block off the rear output on the pump and remove all the lines. Im not really sure if its worth it to loop the lines just to get some cooling....This is what ive done and i have no issues.

          I think the gtst has the same setup, to me this was very easy to do my and my friend (2_eclipsed) just did it to my car couple of weeks ago and to my friends car about a month ago, everything is running good. If you unplug the hicas ECU the HICAS light on the dash board goes out but the steering gets heavier in low speeds but if you leave the hicas ECU pluged in the steering is easy even in low speeds but the HICAS light stays on.

              cleaner yes, but it only takes about 5 min to loop the line and it works just as good.

                  im a bit n00b, but how does looping just before the rear hicas cylinder ruin the pump?

                    run a ka pump, they bolt right up..........dont belive me, come take a look.

                      Or do what I'll be doing with the Z and just run an electric power-steering pump - kinda like the MR2.

                        my bad, it said blocking the lines would ruin it, not looping. Looks like I will most likely use the same method when my GTS-t M gets here.

                          problem with that justin is that you can overdrive it in a performance application.
