  • Your thoughts about us Skyliners and our "elitism"

Someone once said to me: whats with you damn Skyline owners and your elitism?

Tell me are other people just completely jelous or ignorent or what? My argument usually goes something like this: $100,000 car destroys $800,000 Porche, Ferrari, etc around track. They are a rip off, cars for status and stuck up asses only. But what really pisses me off is when people attack 4wd. Oh the car drives itself. LOL Thats when things get so stupid you don't want to even explain yourself anymore! Ect, ect ect there are tons of senarios. Then everytime you bring up Skyline facts vs. other cars people ignore you to keep you quiet so you don't proove them wrong.

Man this stuff "grinds my gears"! How do You all deal with this crap?

Thanks for listening to my rant...

Most people forget that our Skylines in Stock form can't beat the cars we think we can beat.

Stock form beating a porsche or ferrari with 280 hp ? No way..... its only when we modifiy it like nuts that we even have a chance.... I wonder if we could beat a Gt3 if the Gt3 was to throw in huge turbo chargers Skylines arent invincible!

R33 GTR Nurburgring... Held the record for how long?

Today Nissan GTR Nurburgring shouldent even come close to other high end cars as far as cost is concerned.

As far as I can remember the R33 never held the record. It was second.

My mistake, but the R32 did it!

            READ:

Also check Nurburgring laptimes look at how many Skylines are at the top of the list! The fact that these cars are even compared to higher end Porsche's and Ferraris and said to suck is ignorence! The simple fact that they are compared means the Skyline wins. Can't anyone see this fact?

$60 - $100,000 new Skyline laptime 7:29 (Nissan GTR) vs. $800,000+ Carrera GT Laptime 7:28

What are you talking about? The other day I saw a nice Skyline and I went to talk to the owner. I said "Wicked car" AND HE PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE and said "No touch".

All jokes aside I think its jealousy and the few douch bag owners who give everyone else a bad rep.

And as far as Skylines killing cars twice the price (excluding the new GTR) its the same for any tuner cars, they need alot of mods to do it. [Note I dont know about the R33/R32 or its records].

A summary of my opinion: People who consider Skyline owners to be elitist are just insecure or jealous. (And the 1000hp chip W0OT! j/k).

This is a very good topic, there is such attitude with most of the Skylines i have run in to here in the Toronto and at meets.Actually i dont ever tell anyone i own one because of the terrible reputation there is behind GTR's i have found that the GTR guys i have met are very sure that there car is the fastest car around and GTS owners should not even call them Skylines. Now iam not saying all the owners are the same but this is just what i have dealt with.I dont go to meets anymore for that reason i hope next year to try again with a meet and maybe i will be surprised.
To all the good owners that dont think there car is great i would like to have a meet.
                thanks guys.

Also, I have no idea where you get the info that skylines are consistently on top.. Below clearly shows what you said is very very wrong.... Believe me I am a skyline owner too, I know how fast my car is when its stock.

Below is everything , end all of all skylines are fastest discussion.

                  1. R32 , R33 all around 8's , only the R35 is 7:29, but take note there has been speculation that nissan cheated with RACE tires instead of street tires. When porsche challenged Nissan asked them to reproduce the lap time again nissan said no... so porsche bought 3 GTRs themselves and tested it and the time was about 7:54

I do respect that the GTR can take down much more expensive cars but thats not the point, its not exotic...
A corvette american build Z06 could give the GTR a run for its money and its CHEAPER!

As a gtr owner, I dont think elitism is a word I would use, legendary is the term I would put the gtr for its prowless on the race tracks. To be elite it would have to carry a very high sticker price that puts it out of the reach to the common folk. When the r32 came out in 1989, it was an advance sports car capable of matching the testarossa and 911. The r32 and r33 had the fastest times for a production car around the ring. But that was then and this is now, and a BNR32 will be hard pressed against today's new high end cars. With mods and tuning that changes of course but even if you spend 40k+ into a build it's still a Nissan. Rich people these days generally like buying expensive high end cars as a status symbol. I cant say for every skyline gtr owner out there, but I dont consider myself elite.

wow it is good to see that there are some other skyline owners that dont have their head in the clouds.
I think there is definately an eliteism factor with some skyline owners, but w.e we are not all like that, and so we cant all be judged as so.

sorry for the ot post but it must be said.
Hybrid's are the biggest waste of money on the planet. They are slow and don't get any better millage then a good diesel. Hybrids are nothing but a status symbol and i despise them.

A diesel is about a million times better then a hybrid, is good on the environment, and is better on gas...er... diesel.
You mean celebrities buy hybrids and they help encourage the public to go that route through media. Its no different from fans from trying to copy their favourite movie star latest wardrobe directly from the red carpet. Honestly if I was enviromentally friendly and I needed a vehicle, I would get an electric car or convert to biodiesel rather than hybrid.

Back on topic, I think its because skyline gtr's are JDM's, being made exlcusively for the home market, some people get the notion that since it has to be a grey import sports car and being rhd, it garners some kind of elitism, but in reality it's not that difficult or expensive to buy a r32.

It's one thing beating Porsche's lap time, but catching up to the amount of race wins Porsche has would be difficult. It's easily over 1000.

From what I can remember the R32GTR finished 2nd, 3rd in 1990 and 1st in 1991 at the Nurgburgring 24 hour race.

The R34GTR won it's class but finished 5th at the Nurburgring 24 hour race. It would have finished higher, but I think the rear brakes or something like that let the R34GTR down. From what I can remember the V8 powered BMW won the race.

Here is the R34GTR during qualifying at Nurburgring 24 hour race -

                            Group-A Japan with R32GTR -

It was like a 6 cylinder 550hp-640hp R32GTR compared to a 4cyl Cossie, Honda Civic, BMW, etc, that had less hp. Just look at how easy it was for the R32GTR to overtake a line of cars near the end of video clip above. I think was around 7:40 onwards. R32 GTR had the HP advantage.

thing about old group a racing is nissan built the bnr32 with the rule book in hand. Doing so rewarded them with nearly flawless seasons until they were booted for being "too fast"
