AS soon as anyone starts to ask me what makes a Skyline so great, I just soft pedal the conversation and tell them it's just a car, but I like it.

Ultimately, you 'get it' if you understand the history and appreciate the engineering that went into the GTR. (Porsche was bragging last year about their new electronic torque split control. It takes input from a bunch of sensors and decides in real time how much torque to the front... I know they developed it BEFORE Nissan built the BNR32, but they didn't commercialize it 'til now.)

I find a lot of people just think all skyline owners are elitists just like a lot of people assume all Porsche owners are snobs.

As much as there are elitist jerk skyline owners there's also a**holes that try to bring skyline owners down saying they can get a GTR for 5K or GTS-T's are POS why didn't you get a GTR etc.

In summary: Some people are a**holes, Some people own skylines.

Tire technology has come a long way since the R32 came out. R32 brakes were also limited by the 16" wheel size they were required to run. The R32 V-spec with larger brakes had a much better lap time.

Hard to compare todays cars with an 18 year old car. When the BNR32 came out it WAS the king of the road.

i would say that GTR owners are snobby or believe in elitism. I'd agree with others that your owning a piece of racing history. its the pedigree and the heritage of the car that makes it legendary. anyone that is into the automotive sceen knows the GTR.

that being said, i would say that skyline owners in my experience go the extra mile for each other, in comparison were still a relatively small group. a very helpful and down to earth bunch from what i've seen.

nothing is as good of a feeling as watching the frustration on a 360 modena, or 911 turbo driver when he/she cant pull away from you

from all the meets i've been too there have been no elitist. maybe i just don't notice it. I do really love the camaraderie that is always present at skyline meets.

Every platform has their group of elitist. Even civic groups... ew... they always think their swapped civic could beat my GTR into the ground. And they would let me know it too. haha. Then you have your rx7 elitist, supra elitists, BMW elitists and all of their sub-elitist groups. every car has a bunch of people who are convinced it is the ultimate car. Just by assuming a skyline owner is a douche, makes you a douche haha

Whatever, the GTR is still up there... 18 YEARS LATER!!! Thats an eternity in car years!

I have to admit I have been alittle arrogant, I promise myself I will let off. Just have to get past other peoples jealousy now.

But this is only with me and friends, I never talk "elit" at meets. Never heard any "elit" talk at meets either. Most people part of the meet scene here in Toronto are down to earth.

But in my eyes: I conclude, I simply love Skyline, so to me the Nissan Skyline R32 33 34 35 are the greatest cars ever produced! :-P

Didnt you see sport compact? They did a test at laguna seca on stock cars and the coblat SS came out top beating the R32!~

Another car to watch out for are those BMW 135, you might think they are small but they have the 335i twin turbo engine in it! Now I want myself one of those!!!

if you look critically at alot of the posts on this forum, it's easy to see where the elitism remarks come from.
                          1992 GTR - 2.7L, GT2871R's, forged bottom end, big valves, 270* cams, R34 getrag

time definitley has alot to do with it, technology advances so much especially over 18 years. as Corkey Bell said in maximum boost, "Automotive technology advances so quickly that today's high power street cars get more mpg than yesterday's econobox, and today's econobox could outrun yesterday's performance vehicle."

my example would be the new accord V6 with 268 hp; almost as fast as a BNR32 (straight line), and the mpg isn't even comparable.

in medicine hat there is no "elitism" unless i am misunderstanding the whole meaning of the word. most pf the car owners here, exspecially the imports nobody acts like their car is better, everyone here can apreciate a civic, rice or not, mustangs, eagle talons, suzuki swifts. ect. its nice to have a good group of people to cruise with that get along good and have fun. you can realy point out the "real car people"

there is one guy in a cobalt ss that talks a little to much, a few guys with subaru's and one guy with a civic.

now ill have to say 80% of the guys with mustangs think that their the ****, ill admit i like mustangs, but the way some people "Rep" them is terribly wrong.

Honestly, from all the skyline owners I've spoken to (except the odd one, but of course if u ask those guys if they're on gtrc they look at you like ) have not even been the slightest bit big headed and egotistic. Everyone is pretty much down to earth. I think people get the idea because most of us really appreciate our cars (even though i don't have a skyline yet) and enjoy showing people the ins and outs if they're interested. When a skyline shows up at a car show there is always that one person that is intrigued by the foreign object they are staring at. They ask questions and most of us are happy to answer . However, some people may not understand this concept and think that we are trying to show off.

that or people are doing research on skylines. come across gtrc and click the people acting like noobs thread..... then they're thinking "what a bunch of dicks" lol
