So first off I don't own, or plan on owning a gtr. I'm an apprentice heavy duty mechanic with a big background of playing with cars. I do a lot of side jobs for friends. A few months back I built a motor for one after a mishap and I credited the problem to that, an accident. Another good friend of mine recently picked up a gtr kitted, upgraded gts-t that was put together by the same shop as the gtr motor.
So im going to put my rant into an easy to read list
problems with gtr motor after disassembly and inspection not just by me, but a highly qualified machine shop:
1. rod ends on the motor were cut to .010" no cutting to the mains
2. rod bearings were .010 over sized AS WERE THE MAINS!
3. main bearings quickly decide to head south
it all happened on the dyno while playing with an safc. this shop chalked it up to fuel wash! come on now really? the tuner has played with hundreds of safc's and within a couple minutes managed to fill the crankcase with enough fuel to wash out the bearings? get real. the shop even sent over a dyno sheet of the afr's and they still blame the tuner.
i never really said anything bad.
onto the gts-t a friend traded a pretty bagged on ae101 levin swaped ae86 for:
work apparently done by this shop:
20g greddy turbo
valve seals and upper gasket kit
problems i found (after a wet compression test, i did this at work, what diesel engine shop really has a leakdown test kit)
1.no gasket between turbo and manifold
2. no gasket between oil return and flange fitting.
3. HEATER HOSE USED FOR OIL RETURN!
4. compression before wet test 1-6
65- 70- 75- 100-85-85-70
5. compression after wet test 1-6
70-70-75-100-90-90-80
tss, seriously NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS SHOP!
