  • My Skyline was broken into last night!

I just got the car, and dropped it off to my mechanic to bring the car up to inspection standards. The car has insurance, but the only time I've even driven it was to send it to the shop. My mechanic was nearly finished all of the mods to pass the Out of Province inspection (they were about a day away), and had parked the car outside on their lot (along with about 10 other cars).

This morning, they called me with the bad news; someone had broken the driver's side window and stolen the Carrozzeria sound and nav system out of the car, doing extensive damage to the interior of the car to get it. They took the head unit, the nav screen, the CD multichanger, the DVD nav unit, and my Sparco shift knob. In doing so, they broke the driver's side window, the console trim piece, the lower dash/center console, all of the mounting plates for the stereo and HVAC, the HVAC unit, the ashtray, the floor carpet, and the trunk liner. All of this just to get a stereo that has no functionality in North America aside form playing CDs.

I've called my insurance company, but because they were waiting on the OOP inspection to grant full coverage when this happened, they are likely going to cancel my insurance (but I'm still covered for the theft, at least).

I guess where I'm going with this is; if anyone hears of someone trying to fence a crazy JDM Carrozzeria system in the Edmonton area, let me know so that I can "talk" to them. And I also advise all of you to invest in a security system, if nothing else than to have a deterrent.

And if anyone here on the forums has any of the parts I need, send me a PM - I'd like to get the car fixed so that I can actually drive my new car before something else goes wrong.

Now I'm going to go off and beat my head against something solid..... :hit_head: :hit_head: :hit_head: :hit_head: :hit_head:

*edit* Here are the pics of the carnage.

maybe the shop should be fitting the bill for the repairs since they didnt take care of the vehicle... not keeping it in the shop caused this problem for you... and while it could have happened to someone else, and prolly would have... they are responsible the way i see it...

and if they are in a high theft area or have had problems before, then why dont they have a secure lot to prevent this from happening?

The shop owner is going to do the repairs for free, and is going to cut my original bill Way down. The shop is on 142st and 115th ave - mainly musclecar specialists, but good mechaincs. Kim (the owner) feels really bad about this, and is doing what he can to fix it - although I do fault him for putting the car outside. He had several 6-figure cars parked in the garage, and had no more room for the GT-R.

shitty deal, you realy have to shake your head that people stoop so low to do something like this. and its probably someone who is familiar with this jdm stuff.
i wish you the best in getting it repaired

Nersan (333) can get me everything out of one of his parts cars, now it's just a matter of convincing my insurance to let me handle it through private sales.

Based on what parts were broken, and how quickly and violently they were torn apart, I would say that my GT-R was targeted specifically (that, and they didn't touch the Yenko Camaro SC that was parked nearby).

this sucks big time, Were there any camera's at the garage?

I dont wanna say this but do you think the garage has anything to do with the break in? Maybe not the owner but one of the mechanics? They usually have sticky fingers when it comes to seeing nice nav systems and so on. Not to mention that they had time to remove the speakers?

                            Nope, no cameras.

I'm not too worried about the other 2 mechanics - I know them both, and they're clean. All of the speakers are still in the car (both subs, too). And even if the system is nice and unique, the nav, DVD, and radio are all useless in North America.

to me it looks like the theifs knew exactly what was in your car, i mean taking the time to cut the carpet and trace the wire back the trunk, i don't think i've seent that before. i would start asking more questions about anyone that came in contact with the car.
