i see the value in a nur...im sorry....the thing is just indestructible....

plus i would always favor OEM Nissan vs any AM part....the N1 engine was built with alot of engineering...sometimes AM arent

      FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTAND....

OEM's R&D > most aftermarket stuff. OEM component are meant to work together and last a long time. A/M..not so much. Since when did you see a A/M engine will last 200k??? OEM..easily.

Ok. You go ahead and run those OEM cast pistons and see how long they last if you detonate. And also make sure you run the stock connecting rod bolts, and see how bad they strech if you run it up to 8000+ RPM's often.

A/M isn't meant to work together and last a long time? Hrm. That's odd. I could've sworn that a 4340 Forged Pauter or Manley connecting rod was significantly stronger than a stock RB26 rod, with larger bolts, and a better design. Do you really believe that a stronger rod made out of better material will fail sooner than an OEM rod? How about pistons? My CP's are made of a stronger material, have better wrist pins, and are machined much beter than OEM pistons, but you think OEM cast pistons will last longer because they're OEM?

OEM components are designed to slightly exceed the loads they have to in their OEM capacity, and that's pretty well it. Then they try and cut down cost. There's nothing about an OEM piston, rod, bolt, etc, that will cause the motor to last longer than an aftermarket engine. Do you people not see the correlation that when people build motors they're likely making a lot more power than stock, and more power than stock means more stress on everything?

I personally have never seen a 200 thousand KM RB26 in any capacity, but I guarantee you if you took a well-prepared engine with aftermarket parts and ran it at 300 HP vs. an OEM engine, the aftermarket engine would last just as long. Maybe even longer, because you can use a torque plate to bore the block, and OEM doesn't.

BTW, one of the admins on GTR.CO.UK bought a BNR32 a couple years ago. Had 212 thousand KM's on it, original engine was rebuilt at 138 thousand. It was built with aftermarket parts, and had steel wheel turbos. Odd, an aftermarket engine lasting 70+ thousand KM's at 400+ WHP? Blasphemy I tell you, he should've paid double for a NUR!!

A member on this board (333) bought a car with a NUR in it. Used the block/head/crank, and threw aftermarket forged pistons and rods in it. I wonder why he would ruin such a godly motor with some aftermarket pistons and rods if the stock nissan stuff would be more reliable and last longer. Hrm.

so then tell me why zulus car never broke down with almost 15,000+ kms on a stock internal N1 engine with almost 700 crank HP...

oh wait...thats right its a POS that wont hold up...my bad....

If you think you are right, then go ahead. none of my business.

bottom lines. OEM millions dollar of engineering > so call aftermarket R&D.

I met the new owner today, while Zulu, Eightball84, stopped by RacingGreed while Levi's car was getting dynoed today. Couldnt have sold it to a nicer guy.

Thanks again New guy for staying later to let me finish off borrowing the Datalogit.

No problem. Thanks for the pizza, whoever ordered it. The leftovers were awesome at 6AM this morning.

Just need the Datalogit software now =P.

                      Ya, I think so too.

He makes a lot of good arguments for the general GTR's out there. But he's never been in Zulu's car.

It's not your typical GTR. I would think it's the nicest all around GTR in western Canada, and even possibly all of Canada.

his con rod bolts are Tomei.

And so far it's held up to more track abuse that any GTR I know and help up just fine at 1.6BAR (530AWHP).

Anyways, I'm sad to see it go and hope that we won't read a thread in a few weeks about someone wrapping their new GTR around a pole ... Hope the new owner puts as much time/money/love into it as Dan did.

Everyone seems quite keen on me wrapping it around a pole =P. I'm going to be the first to admit, I don't take care of cars/houses/myself/whatever as well as Dan does. I'll do my best with his car tho, and I had an awesome time driving it home last night and this morning.

It's DAMN solid. Zero squeaks, rattles, whatever on a 1300km drive. Even at 0.8 bar, it's quick.

I bought it because I killed my 07 STi, and I can safely say building a fast, reliable trackday STi takes a serious amount of money. **Especially if you're buying a new one**. It's not a bad platform, but high power levels are hard to reach reliably. It seems that there are FAR more reliable 500+ GTR's out there than 400+ STi's. Out of the 3 that I am familiar with in Edmonton, 2 of them haven't spent much time on the road/track, and have been back to their home shop for serious rebuilds or troubleshooting more than once. Nothing against the owner's cars (I'm actually pretty jealous) or their shop.

                            Just saying.

When you've put in as many hours building that thing as I have, you would be very sad if something happened to it. You think .8 is fast? Wait until you really unleash it .
