Honestly, if he's going that route, might as well go a bit further and go for the Evo. Some of the older ones are available in Canada now, I think 1,2,3 and 8,9,10.
Im going to go with a keep on this one. Skylines are timeless in my opinion, and as much as I love the STi, its too common and takes a lot to make it unique.
i like them both, so im gonna keep the gtr as a summer car and my jdm gc8 as a daily and buy a ver.7 sti and swap everything over. 6spd, ej207 with a bit of boost, bolt on's and tuning, lsd's front and rear, brembo's... oh and that amazing sound that they make, its the perfect dd!
trust me this wont change anything...hes very committed to this new direction...its a great car but in his opinion its time to end one adventure and start another...i wouldnt worry much though zulu will still be around the skyline community hes building my car with falcon

Subie's without $20,000 worth of mods are poo. The only ones I have ever seen that are any good have an assload of work done to them. Then there is the exhaust note, sounds like they need a tune-up at the best of times. Not awe inspiring in the slightest.
Keep the GTR, unless you want to winter drive, keep the GTR.

Buddy has an 04 STI with a 20G, catback, FMIC, and a handful of other small mods. Definitely not 20G, and 390 WHP is more than enough to make a fun daily driver.
