Personally, I think all you guys with oil that costs more than really good watch are all nuts. I defy anyone to notice the diff. protection wise between all those fancy a$$ oils and diesel oil. In fact most of the oil today that doesn`t have a racing designation on it has NOTHING that these engines need.
Our valve trains have sliding parts in them, meaning metal sliding across metal with a presure of at least 50lbs and a max of 175lbs. This situation needs moly and zinc and a touch of sulfer. NONE of the modern oils have this in them any more because most modern engines have no sliding parts (all roller) and for emission purposes. I don`t care what kind of propaganda RP Amsoil or Mobil have going on, they can not protect our valve trains effectively, they cannot use the proper additives BY LAW (EPA).
I change my 10w40 Shell Rotella T diesel oil every 1000km (being a dino oil I need to). It never has any nasties in it and is protecting my valve train from galling at a whopping $1.67 per litre. A 20l bucket from Walmart will give me 4 oil changes. Add the Wix filters at $6.77 each and you can see the appeal.
Keep in mind I`m pushing 600hp out of a relitively stock longblock. For you 300hp guys you could go 3000km between changes, I`m anal about clean oil. Rotella T goes for about 7000km in the average big rig before a change.
Food for thought......

I went in to Ztune maybe three weeks ago now to get an oil change, they were out of 10w40 that I had at the time and wanted again. They said 20w50 would be fine. So that's what I'm using now. Haven't noticed much of a difference. Oil pressure seems a bit better at idle compared to 10w40. They just recommended that I let take it easy a bit longer than I did with the 10w40 before having any fun and boosting her.
The ass dyno did tell me that it felt faster after the oil change, though
3400lb racing weight and 127.72mph in the quarter at 1.2bar (1.5 feels at least 50hp more) works out to 510 WHP. At 1.5bar I`m at least 600hp at the crank. That`s being concervative too.

Yea I used RP10w40. Car just had an oil change when I bought it, and then I did one more over the season (only had the car since June) as it was taken off the road a few weeks ago. I didn't notice any difference from before the change but I had a slight miss from poor plugs and didn't push it too hard.
The only time I ever noticed a difference with oils was in my old work truck (a 97 Ranger I owned a few years ago). I wouldn't change the oil until the oil pressure dropped to L when I turned corners haha. Then an oil change would prove a difference in the butt dyno.
