I would ask for his manager, tell them you do not want to deal with some one who is openly biased about the type of vehicle you own. That is not the way a large company should conduct business..... thats just discrimination

Also, the estimator I met with seemed to have a huge grudge against skylines. He openly told me he dislikes RHD vehicles (which made me wonder why I am having someone who's biased against these cars; estimating one). There were other weird things too, like when he said "Oh I see you've got the GTR shocks in there" when in actual fact they are $2000 Tein coilovers. He also said "The body lines look funny", apparently indicating he thought it was a "$10000 GTS"!!!!!!!!

I need to make some phone calls I think!
You have a RIGHT to buy back your car. No if's, and's or but's! If you want it, they HAVE to sell it back to you.

Don't accept the first three to five offers. They're likely going to be garbage. Make sure you get what the car is worth to you. LOTS of people on these boards have gotten everything back from their cars, sometimes more. My ex's dad (in an Accord but no less) got paid for the $50 tank of gas he had just put in...

If he's plain out biased ask for someone else. The fact that he's telling you that you can't get your car back shows it. Search these forums... there was an article posted up awhile ago where ICBC wouldn't let someone buy back their car... ICBC got sued. Print out the article and bring it in next time you meet with them. Slap it on the counter and say "**** you I want my car." Maybe you can even show it to his supervisor...

EDIT: The crap about hazardous materials is such bs. You can't have the parts car because the same products you buy over the counter at Wal-Mart for maintenance must be properly disposed of...? That's complete bs. I would talk to his supervisor asap. Every "Chemical and harmful substance[s]" my ass. Does that mean you can't buy motor oil and do your own oil changes at home because you don't have proper facilities?

        **** I hate ICBC

that's utter bs on the fluids.

The fire damage didn't contact any "fluids". ICBC likes to BS around and think it works because the only thing they want you to buy is their BS, not your car.

            Keep pushing up their ****-heiarchy.

Maybe he should search the vin #??????
Sounds like he's doing what he is trained to do.....discredit your GTR... I would stop him right there in his tracks and go to the claim supervisor and tell him/her the adjuster is biased and can't search a vin # and you would like someone else.

If you want some back up pm me and I'll go with you.

                * If more than $1000 damage is caused to one of the vehicles in the accident. Its a giant headache, everyone is notified pretty much, its a 3-way deal with you, insurance, and the police.

and wow...this is quite the headache here! What Franc did was perfect, it would work even better in your case I would think, a hell of a lot more on the car is intact. Don't give up without a fight! If I were out there, Id lend a hand trying to poop on these people!

In BC it's any accident you would deem to be over $2000 in damage or one that may have an injury (whether it's present at the time of the accident or likely to develop) you must call the police and have them come out.

You can pay out an accident no matter what the cost is to the other car. If there's injury involved you can't pay out.

I paid out my accident (small fender bender when I was in Grade 11). I could have paid the $1000 cash for the accident, or paid an extra $1200 in insurance premiums the next year... and then $800 the year after... etc.

Take what I said, and replace it with you just wrote (minus $1000) and that is how it is in Ontario. Thank you Chris!

Is your car still at your place? Strip it before they take it! lol

But seriously, how does it work with ICBC? You have a accident/fire, you go in for a claim, they say it's a write off, and they impound it right off the bat?

at least you could save it. Some trips to the importers and some old clips away from being a ride again!

just saw the pics. i feel so sorry for what happened to ur GTR. it's such a bad luck.
Hope you will find a good GTR for your next car! so you can leave that hyundai!

ICBC really should have better attitude, AND at least have people who know RHD and aftermarket parts well.

I always wonder why we don't have private car insurance companies around....

^^^^ This has been discussed, and believe it or not, other provinces/states with private companies have higher rates and experience more bs

ICBC, although they can be crooks, could be much worse. Life's a bitch I guess.

in my case, when i rolled my GTR, i was (still am) insured with AXA here in quebec,

the car was a write-off, so i got its declared value, 9000$
+ 2400$ for parts i had installed during the 3 months prier to the accident about 4500$ total value), since i produced a PDF document stating all the new parts, with invoices, or examples of their value on the used market, and pictures of all the parts and the car, before / during / after

and after a bit of negociations, i bought the car back for 1800$, with all the brand new parts still on it..

very good experience overall, thats why i went back with them for my 2nd GTR, and all my beaters, and they insured me no problem

but, to keep the premium down, my deductible had to go up

for my first GTR, at 19 years old, i was paying 1250$/year with 500$ deductible
my 2nd GTR, same age, 1 claim (write-off), i am paying 900$/year, with 2000$ deductible

both were fully insured both sides, with fire, theft and vandalism

good deal considering my age and type of car..
