I turned 19 last week and I pay $217 a month for an old honda...the ballpark quote I have on a skyline is $460 for liability ONLY. Its no fun...having 10+ years of driving experience makes allllll the difference.

yeah im with you on that. my rates for the honda are now less than half than what it was before.

on a side note, my dad who used to pay something rediculous like sub $500 a year for complete coverage, stepped into rates roughly $450 a month with his e92, absolutely nothing changed, just the car. So yes, the car is a big factor too. But for what it is (a skyline), I dont think ontario rates justify the coverage/what you get in return.

Then your best bet is high risk insurance like Fidelity - I was paying 400 for that before I got insured elsewhere (Id share but not taking on RHD vehicles right now)
                  93 R33 GTST - DD
97 Legacy GT Sedan - RIP

trickey cannot be used as an example lol, at least for people living in urban areas.

If you live OUTSIDE a major city centre (Toronto, Ottawa-gatineau, London, KW, barrie), your rates will be significantly cheaper. BECAUSE of the smaller risk for collisions with other people.

a friend of mine an hour outside of the GTA pays sub-$500 a month for coverage...on 3 rhd cars combined.

thats weird..cuz my insurance is through a company in Montreal..that seems like a pretty big city in my opinion..and dont say .."thats not the same as living ina big city" because i called an insruance company in Toronto for insurance on my 92 integra..and it was cheaper then in brcokville where im from..and thats who i was insured through..sooo..i can be used

its not the insurance company, its your address.

using an insurance company in an urban area will have lower rates, because they have huge numbers of policies that they collect huge coin off of. where as smaller brokers have less customers, so they may have higher rates to make up for it.

so the key is, using a broker in a larger area, and live in a rural area. lol

It also has alot to do with your driving record. if your squeaky clean, you pay next to nothing but even one ticket can kill your rates. When I signed with my insurance company I had 2 tickets and was paying like 210 a month for a cavalier!! And when my policy renewed one ticket was abolished and my insurance went down to 150 (the longer you are with them helps a bit too) I'm guessing your record is just cleaner than your friends. This holds true for type of vehicle as far ad I know as well I have a friend who wanted a cbr 600rr but he had I think 4 or 5 tickets so they considered him high risk and wouldn't insure a bike for him at all. You really gotta shop around.

This is very true. When one of my roommates in university changed his address from Toronto to Waterloo his premium was cut in half, same driving record, same insurance company, just different address. We just get the shaft on insurance in the GTA.
