I asked the guy, why would someone want to purchase this car for $30000 and not be able to register it. He said they find ways to register them. So we are being penalized for the inability of the US to stop them from being registered. Their answer is it to not let them over the border. There a few loop holes, I believe they can drive them with dealer plates. I was going through the rules of importation and unless it was strictly a race car they cant even buy it as a track car because it is made for the road originally. And realistically they are correct in saying they dont want them on their roads because they havent been tested by the DOT, but I could drive over in a 1940's ford and they wouldnt even blink an eye I bet. Which car is safer on the road. It really has nothing to do with safety, they are just picking up on an easily detectable car and picking on it, just because it stands out. I have sent some emails for clarification to the border agency so I will let everyone know what becomes of it. They did not say there was a recent crack down but let us know how everyone else is doing.

To answer your question he said guys are driving these cars to NY city selling them for $30000 and taking a bus home. If it is happening alot then we will feel the pressure. Just so you guys know, if you enter the US and don't state you intend to sell the car, and some how it gets traced back to you, you will have a warrant out for your arrest. It is a federal offence to import a car into the states and sell it. Even though you may not think you are the importer, you are the one who took it across the border. I would steer clear of any deal like that.

I cross at least 1 at week over here in vancouver, never have a been denied, only thing they have done was search it a bunch of times but they have done that with all my cars. i almost want to say i have had less problems since owning the skyline.
The border guys are also now more curious as to why i have a usa work visa as apposed to a rhd car.I love the thing and its worth it every time I start it. As soon as it stops make me smile ill get rid of it (not gonna happen)

Well went down in a friends 180sx yesterday for a drift ever (damn was it wet out...) and the border guard was more interested in all the wheels and tools in the back of the car, then the car its self.
If something was said to the guards about not letting RHD's in to the country, it hasn't made its way out west yet.Automotive photos from around the Pacific North West.

Shouldnt have to get a Nexus card just to cross..
also it means you can only cross by yourself.. if you go with friends.. then you have to take the regular line.. I cross to the USA once a week in my RHD CRX.. never have an issue.. Sucks to be all you out east.. (But you already knew that.. you live East)________________

Man that blows. I remember a thread like this a few years back and the consensus was basically if you take your rightie to the states you are taking your chances of getting turned around.
My own personal experience was last summer when I was in the family minivan crossing into the US near Kingston and we followed a guy in a blue BNR32. We ended up behind him and watched while he talked to the border guard for a good 20 mins before he was asked to pull to the inspection zone. Then he went inside and was there for another 30 mins before he had to turn around and head back to Canada (my wife is a Japanese citizen so we were in the building watching this guy while she was waiting to get her visitor visa).
Brutal.
