  • Decisions decisions...

    Hey guys.

    I'm looking for a car.. Basically I have a 91 GTR lined up, or a 93 supra tt 6spd.

The car will be my DD (I might winter the GTR if I were to buy it). Both will remain on stock twins.

I'm basically at a "wat do". The supra will be more reliable. Looks is a toss up. Interior goes to the supra, although I love the r32 interior. I like corners, but I hear the supras still handle great with a bit of work, and it basically has the "toyota toughness" feel to it. Hearing from people that have owned both or currently own both they say they are scared to go all out with the GTR in fear of it popping. While the supra they can beat the **** out of and it comes back for more.

I realize most of you own skylines, but if possible I'd love to hear feedback by people that have at least driven both. Or just your general opinion.

    I hate decisions like this.

sounds like you want a supra.
Real Skyline owners have lost at least one to a freakish accident (*- ω -) = #dungive'a

I've driven both, they are very different cars.

The BNR32 is a race car; simple interior, powerful engine, AWD traction
The Supra is a luxury sports car; supple interior, powerful engine, RWD

The Supra is a car that you can drive long distance, and it's as comfortable as your Elantra, but has more power on tap. The Supra is often tail happy, with the rear end wanting to come out under boost. This is not something that you will experience with a BNR32.
I would not say the BNR32 is unreliable, or even less reliable than a Supra. I would rate them the same. Honestly, there are a lot of poor condition BNR32s imported to Canada, which is why they have a "less reliable" stigma attached to them. A good condition BNR32 will be equal with a good condition Supra. USDM Supras will probably have higher kms on them than an imported BNR32 as well.

That said, spec for spec they are pretty much dead even. It all comes down to personal preference.

I like how Daryl put it. If it was me Id buy the gtr, I personally love them and would Daily a Gtr. Maybe down the road I would like to own a Supra but right now I love my Gtst to death and stock piling parts for a Gtr.
Traction is optional, so are zipties

Thanks Daryl, that is very helpful.

Since I have already had a r32 I might pick up the supra. Worst comes to worse I sell it and buy a gtr.

I looked at Supras before and I can't stand the interior! Don't like the layout and There is too much leatherette in it! Like Daryl said, if you buy a solid BNR32, it will be just as reliable as the supra!
If you want Supra sexiness with a nice interior, good handling and exciting to drive, FD3S all the way!

I would love a FD. But that will come in a couple years.

I personally love the layout of the supra interior, one of the reasons I like them. Although I do like the r32 interior. Nice and simple.

Dammit, I'm sounding biased towards the supra.. I do like them equally. Or else I wouldn't have made this thread =)

Supra would be too loose in the rear end if you wanted to have fun. I have "heard" that the supra motor can be run to 700hp before anything serious needs to be done. And it already has a getrag trans in there. For reliability yes go with the supra but if it was me I would be picking up a Gtr for the fact knowing I could throw it at any kind of racing and it would be able to take on the task. If your looking to just fart around a bit on some dd's every once and a while then go supra. A little more into really laying into it then go with the Gtr. Either way both nice cars in my opinion.

Whatever you do do not buy a fd! Mazda never mastered the problems of the 13b and were rediculous all around. If you buy a fd toss a rb26 or a supra motor in there and you'll be happy with that.
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

I say go with both ? When the GTR is down for repairs you will be able to drive the supra and race people from 90km/hr rolling starts

All we have for a track around here is 1/4... Which I am not really into. So the car will not see any track duty other than some tame parking lot auto x. I love the rotary, I will own one eventually, as a weekend car though, so if it has lots of issues I will not care.

Basically a dd and cruising car.

I see quite a few more GTR's around here than supras. About a 4 to 1 ratio.
