  • Winter driving a skyline Good idea/bad idea?

    So who's done it?
What were your experiences and what do I need to do if I'm considering it?

    I'm in Ontario and I have a 95 gtst

Was there any major salt damage?

I Dont wanna put it away Should I resist the urge and put it away? Or gingerly drive it and enjoy the instant boost provided by the rock solid winter air?

    Winter mode:

    - Winter tires
    - Sand bags in trunk
    - CAA membership
    - Rust proof car

And then you're good to go!

I wouldn't even consider driving mine in Ontario, or any place that uses salt.

I'm going to winter drive my GTR this winter, we don't use salt, only sand.
Bought some stock struts/springs, and some stock gtr wheels w/ winter tires on, also sticking on an oil pan heater, might need a better battery too. Should be a blast tbh, going to make sure my coolant is up to par and go at her.

I've driven both my old gts's in the snow no problem. Make sure you have GOOD winter tires, not all seasons and you'll be fine. Gonna drive my GTR this winter, can't wait.

I thought that Saskatoon started to use some salt last year, so be careful if you come into the city.

                      in ontario?

If your car is already a piece of crap, sure.

If it isn't and you want it to turn into one, go for it!

Rustproof it all you want there's no way to stop winter from damaging it.

Quoted for truth. It is VERY hard to keep it clean....salt is the biggest killer

" The City of Saskatoon mixes sand/salt at a 19:1 ratiion. Salt is only 5% of the material placed on the road."

                          Pulled from Saskatoons website.

If the road surface temp is under - 5c calgary also uses a 97% gravel and a 3% salt mixture.

So, nothing terrible, not really worried about it.

Good call. You're right. And rustproofing gets everywhere and makes a big mess anyways... And the caris pretty spotless as it is, so I'm gonna end up putting it away very soon. Thx for the advice

Even with winter tires my GTS was poo
Unless you like drifting most corners, a rwd like these handles better while a little squirrly.
I only did it one winter, it was ok, but full throttle in 4th gear going 40km/h still spins the tires
