Looking to import an R32. Need Advice

That Boss site just relists cars from Tradecarview.com.. which are are so so deals, most of them are just cars bought from the auctions in japan, and then resold by a dealer for a quick buck, and then if they dont sell they go back to auction.

You'll find a few stories on here about guys buying a Skyline and having it blow up on the way home, or importing one, only to find out they didn't get what they had paid for. And I'd agree that they have all been driver hard, once or twice. So go ahead and price what it will cost you to rebuild your engine, trans, clutch, brakes, tires, suspension parts, and you'll be broke in no time, and you ride will spend more time parked than driven.If you think guys are asking too much for their cars, ask to see the receipts.
Mine 1990 GTR is for sale, come with $13,200. bucks worth of receipts. NONE of that is labour!

You're not gonna know if it was bagged any less when it's pictures in a different country. At least locally you can see them yourself. As for price, an imported $5k car is worth less than local $5k car, most times. Also less headaches of importing when it's already street legal.

5000 for any car imported, your gambling. I would agree with the 240sx idea. you can pick them up clean for pretty cheap and drive the bag off of the KA motor thats in it until you can either swap in a RB or a LS motor. You can also pick up GC8 wrx's for really cheap probably around 6000 for a clean one. They are fast and fun. Good luck man!

You got a point there. It's just a matter of finding one in my price range. I guess ill just wait till spring and see if anything good comes up.

I am currently importing a R32 to Canada using JDM Connection which has been great so far. The fees of getting the car here alone are around $4500. These are the prices I've been told.
60,000 - 80,000 Yen for export fees which include Japanese customs, translation of documents, de-registrations, etc.
10,000 Yen for auction house fees
20,000 Yen for shipping to port in Japan from the auction house ( maybe cheaper if close to port )
$1200.00 Cad for (JDM Connection Fee)
$1100.00 Cad for shipping to Canada port in Vancouver, roughly ( varies a bit based on vehicle size / weight )
$150.00 Cad for shipping insurance ( optional, but highly recommended )
$1000.00 at Canada customs for gst ( 5% ),air conditioning excise tax, duty( 6.1% ), port charges, customs papers, customs clearance, etc. ( this will depend on the value of the vehicle )

And then the price of the car.

****. Well I found an importer here that will ship a 94 GTS25t Type M for $5600 delivered. I am a little flexible on my price but I ain't paying no 10k. I need something for summer that is fun to drive but won't bankrupt me.

Then ur looking at the wrong car my friend! A skyline is the Kim Kardashian/Amber Rose of the car world. You will dump money into them and then they will fu*k you over for everything that you have. And because they are such a fun rewarding car to own, you will be blind to the fact that most of that $5000 will be spent on just getting it on the road/ fixing something that doesnt pass inspection. Many hoops to jump through!

There are plenty of R32 GTS-T Skylines that can be purchased and imported within your budget. But, they are likely to have been treated very poorly or have major issues of some sort. You would probably be much better off looking for something locally.

example:
1992 R32 gtst 165,000km mostly stock sold for $6500, last may (2012) receipts for $4500.00 in recent maintence, plus $600.00 in additional parts and 20 plus hours of personal time spend going over the car.

the buyer immediatly started tinkering with the car and blew a charge pipe open on the highway.(within a week)
I helped him inpect and reconnect everything.
also he, for some reason, changed the spark plugs that were just replaced. but with no anti seize!
then about a month later
the buyer then slipped the clutch out in 10,000km driven in under 2 months.
he replaced the clutch with ACT clutch.

removed the momo race steering wheel and installed a "sparco" generic one
removed the cat and resonator
installed a jun lip and rear diffuser
and only did 2 oil changes


to me, this car is going down hill fast, its now not road legal (cat delete)
and was not well maintaned ( oil changes )
I was suggesting a higher quality clutch such as, exedy hyper single, or nismo, or spec.. but he went with ACT

car is now over 176,000km
now he wants to sell it back to me for $5k .

i dont want it! so there is a parts car coming!

IMO THIS CAR IS WORTH $3500-4KMAX
IF IT WAS 100,000KM OR BELOW MAYBE $5K

In all honesty! i imported my first skyline from japan. I was a complete stressball. I was 17 with limited funds going to school and working part time! i imported the skyline via Adam@feastautoexport. He really did help me through the grand process. It took a good 6 months to arrive at my door. After all the stress i went through and the endless emails and questions and concerns and what not seemed to be worth it once i saw the car in my driveway and had the key in my hand!

Now since then ive owned a good 20 or so cars ranging from rhd and ldh jdms. Ive returned back to a skyline that was a replica of my original that i had purchased. My advice to you on a simple fact is you can find what your looking for at the local market for a cheap affordable price. Now your budget is pretty low but its the same i purchased my car for but then again i got extremely lucky. At the end of the day whether you buy the car for 200$ or 20,000$ its still 15+ years old meaning parts have been used and need to be replaced. these cars are money pits simple as that but you fall in love with them and it all seems worth while!
