I also made this cute graphic to do with beam pattern for low beam headlights (from the document). I'm pretty sure the inspector will check this.

To check, park your car 3-4 meters (10-15 feet) from wall. Turn on headlights and compare with image. Image depicts ONE headlight beam pattern (cover one while testing)
    Again, awesome stuff!! Super helpful

EDIT: The CVSE Inspector is coming this wednesday, I have 1 week to make sure everything is perfect.

I really hope he doesn't get into beam patterns and stuff, this is an area I know very little about. The mechanic put my headlights on the alignment machine and was able to align them, but they wouldn't stay put. So i am making much stronger more solid brackets this weekend, also with adjustments. This way the CVSE guy can align them and they will stay put. Its just the vertical adjustment that was out initially.

Yea, the document specifically says (though I forget where I saw it now) that it must be able to hold the alignment. I wouldn't be surprised if they give it a bump around and then re-check it. It also goes into depth on headlight aim on page 29.

If you follow the pattens above you'll be fine. Being able to align the headlights on the machine is great. It is the only acceptable way of aiming headlights according to the document. The wall method is for pattern only, not aim.

Huh...and I talked to a CVSE guy at HotNite last year and he said that the headlights are becoming a NON issue. Guess someone from the Used Car Dealership Acc. put sand in someones shorts again.....pricks.

Oh..and get rid of those siliconed on trailer tail lights, they just make everything darker back there...which you dont want.

They never have before. It would be new if they started.

I suggest you re-read the document thoroughly. Especially the section Check for approved lights & reflectors on page 10.

Every single light, lens, and reflector that came original on your Skyline will pass inspection. Only the headlights must be DOT due to the light pattern above (or E-Coded from a right-hand traffic country).

I would remove the cover you have on your tail lights. You will probably be causing more problems for yourself since they were OK to begin with. From pages 9 and 10:

Is any light or reflector mounted insecurely,
improperly, and/or with glue or other adhesive?

                    Yes: The vehicle fails
Has any light or reflector had a cover, paint, or
other coating applied that darkens the original lens
colour or reduces the amount of light emitted or
                    reflected?

                    Yes: The vehicle fails
On top of that the lens would have to be DOT/SAE, ECE, or JIS/JASIC stamped to pass.

Haha, I know, they're soo strict in MB, not even funny. My friend has ALL his lights DOT approved, along with baffled muffler and seat belts from a 240. WOULD NOT pass with out. Ridiculous!!

Okay so basically, I can take out the cavalier corner lights I have fabricated, and put the stock orange ones back in ? That would make my life so much easier. I know MB will want the corners and tails done when I go back there for school this fall.

As for the rear lenses, If you guys think its a bad idea to have them siliconed on, maybe i should take them off. They are SAE stamped, but if I don't need them then I will remove. Will have to reinstall when I move back to the 'Peg however...

Yes. The only lights you must change are headlights. Leave everything else alone. If you've modified a light or reflector, you should un-modify it, as that is the simplest solution. Simple solutions are the best solutions.

If memory serves me correctly from my R32, all you should have to add are light up rear side markers and a 3rd centre mounted brake light. Which have to be DOT stamped.

For reference, these are the side markers I'm talking about on my old R32:

My R32 had the 3rd centre brake like installed inside attached to the roof liner pointed out the back window. Fun fact too, in that picture I have LED bulbs installed in place of the regular incandescent ones, which would fail inspection.

Perfect ! My side markers look just like that, DOT stamped as well. My 3rd brake light is from a Volkswagen Jetta, early 2000's I believe, also DOT stamped. Looks like I just have to worry about the headlight brackets, making them stronger, and adjustable. Man I was sweating there for a bit, Kind of nervous about taking the lights and stuff ive done off, and then him saying I need them. But hey. You guys know alot more than I do about this subject, so Ill give it a go with everything stock except for the headlights !!

Updating this for R33/R34 guys that the side markers on the front fenders behind the wheel are too far back from the front. Front light up side markers will also have to be fitted.

I'll just reiterate too that R32 are not OK for front side markers as the turn signal wraps around to the side. (even though I thought they were)

You have to add yellow reflectors to the two front corners on fenders for the R32.
